Urolift and MRI
Posted , 6 users are following.
Hi all,
I had the Urolift procedure back in 2019 and have six implants in my prostate. I am due to have a MRI scan of my whole spine next week. Has anyone had such a scan after Urolift and, if so, were there any problems caused by the implants?
Thanks.

Make them aware before undergoing the procedure. The doc or techs should be able to give you a clear answer on this.

Just an update for future reference:
I had my MRI yesterday without any problems after having made it clear details of the Urolift procedure and implants.
So, should anyone else require an MRI following Urolift , there is little cause for trepidation.
Best wishes,
Steve.

It may depend on the type of metal used for the Urolift clips. If it is a ferrous metal like stainless steel, it would be magnetic and may cause a problem. Titanium has much less magnetic properties and would probably not be a problem. To know for sure you should ask an expert like a Urolift doctor, or the company, Teleflex, that makes the Urolift equipment. The company that originally made the Urolift equipment was NeoTract, Inc. in California, but the technology was sold to another company.

I saw elsewhere in this forum that it is ok as long as the levels are within some threshold. I would check with your dr or the manufacturer of your device.
Has your Urolift been successful in terms of flow, frequency, and getting up at night?

Hi cmdred,
Although the urolift procedure has improved the symptoms I was experiencing prior it has not removed them completely in that the flow, although better than before, is not what it was when I was younger.
I have to get up at night, on average, about twice but there is some inconsistency in that some nights, especially if I have but one alcoholic beverage, it can be as many as four. I also find some hesitancy at night especially on the first bathroom visit.
I am not on any regular medication at the moment, I used to take Tamsulosin, Finasteride and Betmiga, but find if I take one Tamsulosin the flow will improve greatly for a couple of days.
