Use of sertraline during pregnancy

Hi everyone! I am pretty new in this page and also new on sertraline. I have panic disorder and anxiety for 12 years. Many antidepressants used, the best was paroxetine for me however can not use it since I TTC. Last year I switched to escilatopram, it was fine for sometime, later on panics turned back. Then my doc switched me to sertraline when i got positive in preg test and i am on it for a month, however I misscarried when I was 6 wks due to some other reasons. Anyway I read some good comments and bad comments for it. My psychiatrist says it is the safest drug but obgyn says it is risky and dont use it if I can. But I know that I cant live w/o antidepressants. So I have to continuesad So I wonder if anyone used it and had a healthy baby?

Panic disorder is horrid , I was also diagnosed with this and I take sertraline it actually saved my life. It is safe, however it does make you worse before better, but it really works, taking it while pregnant I don’t know tho.

HI lattifa how long did it actually take to start kicking in properly. As I’ve been on 100mgs now for the past 8wks with little progress. Doctor was going to put my dose up to 125 or 150 but I don’t know what to do. I don’t know wether to carry on with it or taper off and go back on to paroxatine. Any advice or reassurance please

For me it took 5 1/2 weeks to kick in fully, started to sleep and have less of the depression feeling in my head, everyone is different though , some take longer than others, do you feel any relief at all? If yes then maybe up the dose, if no, then change that would be my advice but obviously speak to your dr too Hun xxx

I was on 100mg with my first pregnancy and my daughter is completely healthy. She’s 4. I am also pregnant right now and on it. My dr actually recommends it and says it’s safer than the anxiety and depression. That the anxiety and depression can effect the baby more. Which I totally agree. I am a very anxious person. I tried going off of it this pregnancy and let’s just say it’s been a nightmare..... finally leveling back out.... You can send me a message if you need to or have any questions!

Hi Abby how long did you go off it for b4 you went back on it? Does it take long to get to kick in again? As I’ve been off my paroxatine now for about 4months to try sertraline but it’s just made my feelings worse. I’m weaning myself back off sertraline and going back on paroxatine. Just wondered how long does it take to start to kick in again .any advice or reassurance please 🌹

Hi Debra, I ve used paroxetine for so many years and it was hard to taper off. If I had a chance to use it more and if it was safe for preg I d never leave it! My lovely drugsmile sertraline is also good but I had many side effects and my body is still not used to it- still have a racing heart or the other sympthoms. I felt worse in the beginning but now feel better no anxiety or panic. Why have you been of paroxetine?

Hi scarlet I was on paroxatine for 171/2 yrs for ptsd. Then the doctor adviced me to wean myself off it and try sertraline. I’m feeling worse than ever. Panicky, anxious can’t sleep, my mind is just doing overtime. I feel really detached from myself and my luv1s. So I don’t know wether it’s the sertraline that’s made me feel worse or because I was on paroxatine for so long. Would I beable to stop the sertraline and go straight back on to paroxatine. Any advice or reassurance please 🌹

My doc told me that paroxetine is the best medicine for anxiety and panic, sertraline also good but not as px does. But many people hve taken the benefits of it as well. I know that sertraline makes worse before makes well so it is your and your docs decision which one to use. Benefits changes one to another. And my doc advised me not to leave cold turkey and also switching method should be slowly. First you need to know the dosage equality. And switch one to another decreasing one dosage down while increasing the others. 3-4 days need to be between the dosage changes. I m not sure but I remember that 20 mg prx equals to 50 mg sert. So you and your doc need to make a calculation and then make it happen. Otherwise you can face withdrawal sympthomssad

      Hi!

I’m on week 9 if Zoloft 75mg. Some improvement, but not enough yet. I’m giving it a couple more weeks. I think my psychiatrist will increase the Zoloft if I’m not where I want to be by then!
