Useful technique for SVT attacks

Hi, just had an SVT attack and thought I would share with you all the technique that just worked for me, and it's worked twice before as well.
Basically you just lay on your right hand side, curl up into a bit of ball (ie knees tucked up and head forwards, fetal position) and then just completely relax, make sure you're horizontal, especially your head and neck. Don't know why it works, but it seems like for me it does. Funnily enough lying on my left hand side can sometimes trigger SVT. Weird eh?
I had already tried the 'breath in deeply and hold your breath for 10 seconds' and 'breath out hard through a narrow tube' methods and they didn't help.
Anyway, remember it and hopefully it might help someone.
Simon.

I just literally had an attack. After about an hour nothing was working so I started reading a forum. One lady advised she got on her bike and rode it around the block which seems counter productive but if you make your heart rate go up...it co es down so...being 230am I didn't want to ride around the block so I just did cardio inside. Once my heart rate got up more from that I laid in a dark room no kites or tv on my right side and once my heart rate came down from exercising ---my attack was gone as well!!
I'm 50 years old and have had SVT since I was 19 this was a first for me. Hope it helps someone else

Omg, I love you.
When I was diagnosed with SVT 2 years ago, my cardiologist taught me to bare down to get rid of attacks and they worked. After a few more episodes that never lasted more than 25 minutes, I didn't have an attack for another year. However, when they came back the following year, not only were they now lasting hours and waking me up at times, but the trick my doctor taught me no longer worked. In fact, I couldn't find anything to work but to wait them out which would leave me feeling absolutely exhausted. I hadn't had an attack for almost 6 months and had one just start with my heart rating getting up past 230. I actually googled "SVT triggers" 30 minutes into the attack as they seem to be cyclic in nature to me but stumbled upon this site. I decided to give it a shot and as soon as I put my head on mind right ground, arms around my knees, I could feel that "release" as my heart beat begins to slow. I really hope this continues to work. Thank you SO MUCH!

Hello, I'm 55 and have been diagnosed with SVT for 5 years now. None of the breathing/relaxation techniques have worked for me. I would end up in the ER and have to get adenosine(hate that feeling)
Until finally an ER nurse told me a trick that works without fail every single time. I put my face in a bowl of ice water! I can actually hear my heart thump thump back into a normal rate. Just tonight I was picking a friend up from work and it started-he ran into Red Robin and got a to go container of ice water-I could only get my mouth and nose in, but it still worked. Much easier than ER trips

That's great! I've splashed cold water on my face but that doesn't work for me. Maybe I need to 'dunk' my face in cold water instead 😊

Pretty sure it's the "shock" of dunking that does it. I hope it works for you!

thanks for the heads up with the ice, I will try it next time I have a episode. Although I've been blessed I haven't had one for quite some time now (about 4 months),due to go for a stress test on 07/13/17 it always brings it on! have to ask for some ice,

Hi I have had svt for 10 years the one thing that works very well for me is standing straight upright and drinking 600or 700ml of water (colder the better but doesn't matter) as fast as you can(bottle/cup must have gulper opening to drink from, to get the water all in at once). Then as you swallow the last mouth full( you want to only swallow 2or 3 times) lay down flat and stay still for 30 seconds. Works for me 95% of the time and if it doesn't repeat steps again.

Thanks for the tip. I'm not a metric system thinker, but swalloing more than a half-litre of cold water in 2-3 gulps seems challenging. I'm very please that this works for you, and I'm looking forward to others feedback.

I will be saving this with my other great tricks from this group, thank you!

1.0 Lie on your back and put feet up high in the air (e.g. lie on floor with legs raised propped up against wall.
2.0 Blow into the end of an empty syringe so barrel gets pushed out with your breath.
I had heard of the syringe thing before and it did not work for me, but the combination of legs in the air + syringe stopped it 100% of the time.
It has taken a lot of worry out of stopping it for me.
