useless paracetamol?

Posted , 13 users are following.

Just heard UK news headline that paracetamol is deemed ineffective in the treatment of low back pain and osteoarthritis, but that it potentially can harm the liver. So the scientists say that instead we sufferers should "take more exercise to strengthen muscles" and make "a lifestyle change" as the main treatment. Presumably they think exercise is a preventative for OA - defo not my experience!! I was fit and active until OA stuck its oar in! What's your reaction to this news?

I take paracetmol with ibruferfen, after food and they work well together. On something slightly stronger at the moment after having second tkr yesterday. So pleased it has all happenened now. Just the recovery to get through. Had physio this afternoon they were quite pleased with me.After suffering excruating pain most of today , I am now in considerable less pain on the left knee.

2015 has to be a memorable year for me. As now have two new knees and it,s not even half wat through the year ! Have just had bandage taken off and again I have come up in blisters. Which happened on my right knee in January......

It will be one study and may not even be reliable research. So I would not take a lot of notice until advised to the contrary. Remember eggs are bad for you, eggs are good for you then one Apple a day is now five pieces of fruit or vegetables. Is red wine bad for the liver? Good for the heart? Depends how much red wine we are talking about. Ditto how much paracetomol would be good or bad etc

Very true! Its always good to have a pinch of salt handy where scientific pronouncements are concerned! Like I said, it was more the suggestion that exercise and a healthy lifestyle could prevent or palliate arthritis that I have issue with!

Me too I exercise and am healthy but both knees have arthritis and the left was agony until the op think the exercise on both knees after left tkr may have slowed down the arthritis in the right helped create fluid and less crepitus plus no pain so might be a grain of truth. But nothing like the claim
