Using allergy meds to deal with symptoms.

Posted , 9 users are following.

OK, so just by chance I found that allergy meds subsided my symptoms. The itching, the rash they have stopped. I'm 5 days in and no new breakouts or itching.

Has anyone else had success with this? I'm feeling good about this.

From the research that I have read this is an immune reaction much like getting a bug bite except that it doesn't stop. See my doctor thought it was poison ivy and put me on a allergy pill which stopped the spread for a month. Plus after 3 months of prednisone off and on he sent me to a dermatologist which diagnosed me with LP. So I asked the dermatologist if a allergy pill would help considering it seem to previously and she said can't hurt.

I'll keep up to date on this as the weeks go by.

Everyones immune response are different. My Dr side start with one 10mg tablet before bed and if that doesn't work try two, all the way to four. The one tablet seems to be working for me though so far. My response was next day. May have to up the dose. I also have a steroidal foam that I was using for new breakouts but I haven't used it in 5 days.

Thanks, I have not heard about a steroidal foam?  Is it for the skin or mouth?  I'll start antihistamine tonight for a while, hope it helps.  Mine is not very itchy though, more like burning ...  lots of new options to try which is encouraging, thanks.

      Hello all,

It has now been 2 weeks since I started taking a allergy pill and I have seen one new breakout. This breakout was just a small pin size spot and I have not seen anything else. I also have to report that my scratches and bruises that been turning into itchy LP legions have stopped. Perhaps the combination of allergy pills and me trying to improve my gut health by taking probiotics and eating yogert with live active cultures and eating healthier will knock this LP out. I will continue to update as things change or don't.

thank-you garbear for the update.  I have both the oral and skin types of LP and find that the allergy meds do tend to dry out the mouth which isn't helpful, drinking lots of water helps of course and is probably a good thing in any case.  I too take probiotics and eat tons of yogurt which is helpful I think.  If you come across any other new ideas, please keep posting ...  still searching for answers, like so many others.  I find it so hard to believe that there isn't more help from the GP's and specialists, no one seems to know very much unfortunately and many aren't too interested as it is not a life threatening disease.  This is my experience so far anyways.  Good luck to you!

    Hello,

Could you please  be so kind  to give the name of the allergy med that helped you. My brother was diagnosed  skin LP a week ago. He has terrible itching and rush all over his legs. He was prescribed steropids but has not yes started the treatment.

I would like him to try first something more mild  than steroids.

I would be grateful if you could reply.

      Hi Irina,

The steroids will help to subside or calm the breakouts. I took mine for two weeks. After the two weeks my dermatologist suggested I use a steroidal foam to use as a more direct approach. The foam is much better on the body's immune system but it will also suppress the immune system too. Also you have to remember this LP is a autoimmune diseses which is an over active immune system. The staroids will suppress the immune system to releave the symptoms. I would suggest to talk to your Dr. But use the steroids to get the LP under control and then see if a allergy pill will help with stopping breakouts.

First of all thank you for your quick reaction to my request..  I think you misunderstood me. I want to know the name of the alergy pill  you have used.

Could you please just tell me the name of the pill not of the foam?

I will, of course, agree its use with my brother's doctor

Thanks a lot again and god bless you for responsivness.

      Irina

I used a generic brand for Zertec. I apologize for not directly mentioning in the post but I did in a previous one that had got deleted because I posted a link to the foam. Best of luck to you.
