using clob for about 4 weeks and now my skin is turning red...?

Posted , 11 users are following.

everywhere I put the medication is turning red, or reddish brown

it's not painful or irritated but it doesn't look normal, also looks a bit lumpy

should I keep using it? or use less, I'm already only using a half a pea sized dot

did that happen to you when you first started using it?

Why are you applying it? Is there an itch? I think less strong steroids may work, too, even Avene's 1 per cent hydrocortisone cream. Also, I tried a vaginal antibiotic/antifungal, and it did restore the color of the tissue, and killed the itch.

    Hi, Patricia -

    1. How often have you been using it? Once a day? Twice a day?
    2. When I was first diagnosed, I used it 2x a day for 2 weeks. That resolved everything.
    3. When I have a flare and go back to 2x a day, I need to titrate down to a maintenance dose. So I go to 1x a day for a week, then 1x a day, every other day, then 1x a day twice a week.

Sounds to me like you could need to back off. Although, it is possible that your skin is going through a process to get back to normal. My dermatologist said that your vulvar skin should be the same color as the rest of your skin.

Bottom line...I'd call your doc and ask. But when you do, BE SURE to ask, what dose you should aim for, as a maintenance approach.

a very small amount once a day for four weeks now, but my doctor said to apply it once or twice a day

I guess I'll contact them tomorrow and ask, thanks!

Interesting about the color of vulvar skin comment. After the 4 weeks of clob, my skin did what patricia says her skin is doing. Doc said the tacrolimus would stop it which it did but the skin has remain a lighter reddish-brown color. Current dr. thinks it's ok but I wonder. Who Knows?

Is it the cream or ointment? Make sure it's ointment, cream can irritate the skin more. I have a medium grade steroid called Mometasone that I like to use when the Clob starts irritating my skin.

I never had any red or brownish coloring with Clob. And the lumps sound like clogged follicles- are you cleansing the area ( gently) and patting it dry? No rubbing. If it continues I would return to your Dr.

yes, I stopped using soap and toilet paper, so I'm rising throughout the day with just water and water in the shower and I use vaseline as a moisturizer

it was getting better at first...idk I just sent a message to my doctor about it, so we'll see

      thanks everyone!

I don't think VASELINE is a great idea ( others may disagree) , but is petroleum based, meaning it is derived from oil, is somewhat flammable and could be very irritating. Our mucousal tissues are very delicate. Perhaps something like v- magic with manuka honey, or organic coconut oul, VITAMIN E or emuaid with tea tree oil would cause less " congestion" in the follicles? Just a thought, I was warned not to use Vaseline. I hope this helps you.

My doc said to try vaseline on irritated skin so I did. Within 2 days, pimples showed up which I did not need so no more vaseline. Karen is right about it being a petrochemical product. Don't know whether that's wise. The Vit E, coconut or other sounds better. I use coconut oil and Eucerin which do help but everyone's chemistry is different.
