Uterine fibroid embolization

so basically I turned 40 and my hormones turned on me is how I felt. I was used to having a 2-3 day menstrual cycle in which I could use junior tampons or liners. all of a sudden I was bleeding profusely and using super plus tampons that couldn't stop the flow. I had a vaginal ultrasound and was diagnosed w 3 fibroids 2 interuterine and 1 submucosal. first attempt was to take birth control consecutively, didn't work. next attempt was mirena the IUD, it worked for about a month then the flood gates opened. upon my own research I found ufe of course the gyno in my office wanted to do a hysterectomy. so I had the MRI to find the exact size and locations. I had ufe done July 26 and I will say 6 days out I can't complain. honestly my iron level was 19 which is crazy to think I was still functioning but over the last 3 weeks I had become exhausted.

but back to ufe, so happy I did it my interventional radiologist is phenomenal explained the procedure had me start taking ibuprofen the day before. I was put under w I guess twilight versed and fentynal. woke up I was fine stayed overnight in the hospital continued with ibuprofen and percocet if needed for breakthrough pain didn't need it. also given a heating pad for my abdomen. I was discharged the next day mild mild cramping but low and behind no bleeding maybe some breakthrough bleeding when wiping that's it. the doctor continued me on ibuprofen every 6 hours for 7 days. I stopped today and actually went to the gym. I almost feel a 100% just been sleeping a lot but feel like I've gotten my life back.

I read all the blogs and was scared but if you do it ask the right questions success rate and all the goodies. there was a chance one of my fibroids WS being fed by my ovary artery but it wasn't so that was my fear.

so far great success hopefully the results continue

That is awesome to hear! I was at month 2 and I was a little worried my UFE didnt work. As I was still having insane pain. Now into my third month, I don't need to take pain meds! Woo Hoo! I have a slight discomfort but just like "phantom" pain. I am hoping next month will be even BETTER! I am soo glad I got a second opinion after my first myomectomy and ovary removal (that didnt work). Well, my second. But that is neither here nor there...soo far, this month, I am a happy girl!

yes. I'm happy for you as well. honestly I was nervous and even told my dr yesterday when I went for my followup and she went through every image and showed what was done.

being a woman definitely isn't easy but at least there are more options. I was extremely nervous after reading all the blogs but as I see it, there is always a worse case scenario.

      good luck ??
