uterine fibroids shrink after menopause?

hi. i have a large uterine fibroid which has caused heavy menstrual bleeding and severe anemia (hemoglobin 7.5). i have been trying my hardest to avoid any sort of surgery or operation. i am almost 52 but still having monthly menstruation and recently (last 2 months) the fibroid feels as though it has doubled in size, and now presents as 4 month pregnancy. i assume this is because i am coming closer to menopause. i would love to hear from anyone who avoided surgery and waited it out and DID have fibroid SHRINK (to become asymptomatic) after menopause. thank you!

Hi Elizabeth. I am 48 and in the same boat. I think I'm becoming perimenopausal as my cycles are starting to change. I have a huge burden of fibroids (from pubic bone to ribs and extending sideways outside of my pelvis), but have so far been lucky with only mild bulk symptoms despite the extent of the fibroids. They can change in volume quite dramatically, both shrinking and increasing. Half a year ago, they were waning and my pants were so loose they wouldn't stay up. But this past February 2021, they underwent a huge growth spurt and those same pants were now tight at the waist. The last several months they decreased a bit and stabilized. I do expect they will decrease once in menopause as I don't expect or want hormone replacement, but getting there is a challenge with the wide hormonal swings. Good luck.
