Avolex and Moxiget are the same antibiotic (Moxifloxacin) which is a Fluoroquinolone.  Why would the doctor go from IV to oral?  Has there ever been any culture done on the urine to determine which bacteria she has?  The Fluoroquinolones are potent antibiotics and many bacteria are suspectible to them.  However, it is possible your mom's bacteria needs a different antibiotic.

I'm not sure I understand what question you are asking.  What kind of problem does she have passing urine?  Does she have to strain?  Can't you find some way to get her to urinate in a container of some sort so that you can take it to the doctor?

Does your mom have a catheter?  Is she able to go to the doctor?  If she can go, they can catherize her to get a urine sample.

Nitrofurantoin is not a good antibiotic for people with kidney problems, such as elderly diabetics with low glomerular filtration rate.   Is is especially dangerous given long term to the elderly and can cause lung problems.

Everything Marilee has said is right, they are the same drug and they are very potent.

The packet leaflet also says they should NOT be given to diabetics!  They should be given with caution to anyone over 60 and they should NOT be given to anyone with renal impairment.  If you mum is having trouble passing urine this may count as renal impairment!

I strongly advise you show the packet leaflet to your doctor and ask him/her for a safer antibiotic - but NOT another  fluoroquinolone (there are several).

Has the doctor actually examined her since you first took her to see him?  I'm guessing you are in India or Asia somewhere?  Your mother should be very closely examined and monitored but the way you have written makes it sound like the doctor is simply telling you what to do - is this right?

Please don't give your mother any more of this dangerous antibiotic.  She is elderly and a diabetic, she has enough problems without needing lung, liver or kidney damage which the Moxiget can cause.  It may even be causing  her dizzyness and nausea as these are very common.  She may develop pains in her legs or arms, so please don't give her any more.  Ask for something safer.

Hope our two replies help, good luck.
