uti disappeared on its own? will i develop a kidney infection?

Last Thursday (22nd August), I began feeling very mild symptoms of a UTI. I just felt the urge to pee quite often but not all the time and there was barely any stinging, just slight discomfort. There was no stomach pain, nausea, headaches or any of the other symptoms of a UTI. This disappeared over the course of four days until I feel no symptoms at all. However, I had read some horror stories of UTIs disappearing and turning into a kidney infection so I ended up purchasing over the counter medication for it and was prescribed cipro which I took on the Sunday (25th August). The symptoms of a UTI disappeared completely around Monday (26th August) but they had already become so mild the few days before that they weren't a disruption in my life. I watched a whole 3 hour movie on Sunday without feeling the urge to go to the bathroom. Cipro ended up making me feel extremely sick and bedridden for three days after and I only felt mostly better today (28th August). I stopped taking cipro after one pill.

Is it possible for the UTI to have just disappeared on it's own? I rarely take medication for anything, the only time I take pain killers is for migraines and once when I took plan B. I can't get to the hospital and they also don't sell anything here but cipro for a UTI, and one pill left me bedridden for days so I would really prefer not to take it.

Also, is a kidney infection painful? I've been feeling a bit of nausea that I'm 90% sure is from the cipro because I've been feeling it on and off since I took it. Would I know immediately if I got a kidney infection? I have no other symptoms aside from mild nausea.

Thank you for reading!
