UTI-like symtoms, negative test results?

I'm 23 and I've been struggling with this for a couple years but I've never been able to do anything about it because my test results ALWAYS, always come back negative.
Essentially I have every symptom of a UTI but no proof that one exists. I've researched STIs/STDs for fear of those but I have no other symptoms other than extreme pain when I pee and/or if I have sex. It's hard to narrow down when my symptoms seem to pop up because it just comes in waves--for example, I could be alright for WEEKS before another episode happens, or I could go a day and be fine but then have it pop up.
The other weird symptom I have (TMI) is that once I try to pee, if I've already tried a couple minutes before there obviously won't be any liquid to pee out, so I'm just struggling with my body's desire to pee and it's painful because there's nothing THERE to pee. Sometimes if I can get into weird positions I can pee a little at a time for relief but this obviously interrupts daily life a lot.
I've been to the ER, I've had multiple labs run, I've taken antibiotics a couple of years ago (which now thay I live a more holistic lifestyle am kind of against now)--I was even taking the D Mannose supplement to see if that would calm my system down.
A weird thing that happened with me a couple of months ago was an allergic reaction I had to taking an antibiotic called Minocycline--my derm had prescribed it for my acne. (This is why I am now holistic.) My health coach believes that this antibiotic wiped my system of ALL bacteria, so my thought was maybe that my pH levels are still off? But that STILL wouldn't make any sense because I've had this problem for the past 4 years
As a side note, I do take care of myself down there--regularly washing (no soaps though!) and no douching either as that's bad for the pH too I believe.
I've even tried to researching to see if it's the shape of my urethra that's the problem, or to see if it could be something deeper like a kidney infection and/or bladder infection. I'm so lost and sick of being in pain, please if you have any idea what this could be please help me!

Is your urinalysis and culture both negative? When I've researched this the only thing that it seems it could be is intersistial cystitis by the sounds of it

Hiya.
I'm suffering from the exact same symptoms as you. I'm yet to find a cure for my pains either I would suggest you keep drinking loads of fluids to make sure that when your bladder thinks you need the toilet you can pass water without it being overly painful, that defo helps me. Also you should definitely get back to the doctors, explain everything and make sure they pass you onto the right people.
I really hope you feel better soon, as I feel your pain, literally!
Let me know if you come to any conclusions.
Take care x

I went through this in my late teens early 20's as well, doctor's could never figure it out. Was always in pain, maybe I would get a couple of weeks out of the month not in pain.It started to go away a couple of years ago after I started taking probiotics in a pill form for women, because some women's PH balance can be off and cause this, also if you have a narrow cervix this can play a role in it. So I started taking D-mannose and than the probiotics from my local health food store, and talked to a lady about it, she told me to drink 3 Litres of water everyday as well, and guess what, it went away and never came back. Try some good probiotic pills and drink 3L of water everyday and see if that works for you.

I created an account just so I couldn't reply to this! What you're describing sounds exactly like what I went through. I have interstitial cystitis. I went through so many painful tests because doctors insisted it was a UTI or yeast infection but it wasn't because all tests came back negative. I was finally diagnosed by a specialist at UCSD. He prescribed a medicine called Elmiron. It's the only medicine that can actually treat our symptoms. Hope you are able to get help for this. I know how painful it is.

Hi, I know this thread is old but I wanted to comment as I’ve had 5 weeks of straight uti that moved into my kidneys twice! I was given 7 days macrobid, 3 days of selexid, 7 days of co-amoxiclav, 3 days of trimethoprim and then another 3 days of Selexid....I was in A&E twice with the pain and my tests sometimes came back negative even though I was in agony. I scoured these threads for weeks scaring my self stupid think ic or overactive bladder, the dr said it was in my head and refused to give me prolonged course of antibiotics and referred me to a urologist. I’ve been off antibiotics for a week and pain free for 2 days...completely pain free! I started to take a multivitamin, b vitamin, 6 Uva Ursi tablets, a probiotic and 2 large spoons of d-mannose with a sachet of cystitis relief from the chemist, after 12 hours the pain and urgency had gone! I’m continuing this ritual and will hopefully remain pain free. Also please don’t let the dr fob you off with negative results...the dip test has been proven to be effective only 30% of the time and the lab culture is wrong once out of every 4 tests! The lab test was created 60+ years ago to diagnose kidney infections so the threashhold for them to consider it an infection is stupidly high! I had a telephone consultation with a leading specialist in urology in London and he has said he refuses to use those results and treats only on patient symptoms, he usually treats them with 6-12 months of antibiotics and has a 95% success rate! Even with women that have been diagnosed with IC and irritable bladder syndrome! Google prof Lee urology and you an see articles he’s written about uti’s going untreated because of these outdated and poorly used tests! People come from all over the world for his treatment! Don’t give up getting your point across to the drs, you know your body and if it doesn’t feel like IC or you still feel an infection then you’re probably right!
