UTI Symptoms but clear tests?

Afternoon, I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on what could possibly be going on!

I'm currently waiting for an Ultrasound to assess the state of my Kidneys, but until then (there's a wait) I'd be interested to know if anyone has experienced the same thing/has any answers on what could possibly be the issue!

For the past couple of months, I've been experiencing ongoing lower back/flank pain, predominantly on my right hand side. It was coming and going, but it seems to be more constant now, and almost feels like its burning. On top of this, I'm constantly tired, feel run down and just generally not well. I've lost some weight recently, (2 stone since March - half intentionally, mainly stress related) and often feel quite nauseous and very burpy! (NOT pregnant)My doctor ran urine and blood tests, both of which have come back clear, hence the ultrasound.

In the last week or so, I've noticed that when I wee, It almost feels like it's a bit of a forced effort, and once I've finished, I don't feel like I need to wee anymore, but If I wait, more appears (never much, just a little bit) If I keep waiting, this will happen 2/3 times. It's sometimes a bit frothy too.

The original symptoms led to us thinking it was a UTI, but with clear urine & blood results, I'm totally baffled!

If it helps, I'm female and 27 years old. If anyone could shed any light on what could potentially be going on it would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance x

    Hey there,

In my opinion, given the lower back pain and the forced effort to urinate, you could be having a stone in your kidney. If so, this is nothing to fear, there are a bunch of drugs that will be prescribed. These drugs enlarge your urethra so you can easily pass the stone.

My advice to you will be to drink as much water as you can, try to stay relaxed and take some supplements to prevent an inflammation or infection.

The ultrasound will be best to give a final conclusion but am pretty certain you might be having kidney stones.

I hope this helps. Happy New Year in Advance 😃

Your doctors are the ones who should be shedding some light on your problem and be resolved in making sure you get what you need...... Put pen to paper to then and then and only then will they take you requests more seriously. I would have thought that if you have lost weight a CT scan would have been more revealing than ultrasound. Much more revealing in fact but more costly! Put your questions to them in writing as that is a record of what's what.

So, Ultrasound happened today and the sonographer said she couldnt see anything unusual in my kidneys gallbladder or bladder and i should go back to my GP next week to discuss the results and see whats next. Any ideas where this could now go?

Thanks for your replies! I have an ultrasound booked for Tuesday so hopefully it'll shed some light on the issues so I can get them sorted!

In the recent week, there's been a bit of blood in my urine and I've also got intermitted shooting pains in my front on the right hand side of my abdomen, nothing serious but it catches me off guard sometimes. Would that also be Kidney Stone related?

My bet is a stone. definitely a stone. Do you have the feeling like you need to use the bathroom but nothing?

i often feel like it takes alot more effort to wee than it should, like im forcing it, and once ive been i feel like i need to go again but dont actually need to?

wouldnt an ultrasound pick up on that?

I am honestly surprised. You are completely describing a stone. Or possibly a UTI. In either case, there are some treatments and recommendations I can make for you, things I have personally used.

But first, maybe go for another ultrasound at a second doctor

A urologist is a must and the only person who should be advising you. They may CT scan you or other critical in depth scans that a urologist should advocate for you......

I always write to any doctors who are caring for me and it works because as everyone knows the pen is mightier than the sword or gassing. ( by word of mouth, on the phone or otherwise)

I would also make sure you are tested for all STDs just to be safe! They can cause symptoms similar to a UTI.

I had TB as a kid but was resistant to it because I'm now 78........ However I have had my share of waterworks problems that were never resolved and is it any wonder that was my 'lot' due to no doctor out of 28 of them never referring to my historical medical notes? That might seem crazy and it is absolutely diabolical mis treatment but I have now 40 years too late consulted a repiratory TB lovely person who does not 'just' know pulmonary but extrapulmonary TB as well. She is the ultimate professional. She knows that TB can come back although a person was resistant to that micobacteria. It can reemerge at any time in a persons life time which is disconcerting but is a fact of life. It seems to be resistance that is the key but if one is stresssed the imune system can suffer and a relapse is possible........

I would suggest that if no resolution can be got for long standing problems look with a fine needle every mortal place until resolution is got that is if you feel something is not right phisically. One doctor told me out of the 28 that TB can affect any thing in the body.

    Education education education........
