UTI two months ago, still having symptoms.

I started getting UTI symptoms two months ago and was treated with two different antibiotics. Still had slight urgency so went to urologist who said it was just inflammation and anxiety. It got worse again so went to ER and urine came back clean and did a pelvic exam. I was told my cervix was very inflamed. They took swabs and sent for culture.  The results came back online but I won’t see my doctor to discuss in a few more days.  It says “Heavy Growth normal uerogenital flora”.  Does the heavy growth mean an imbalance or is this a totally normal culture?

Also has anyone had inflammation last so long?  I constantly feel like I have to pee but I can hold it for hours it just gets more uncomfortable around my clitoris and urethra the longer I do.

It does sound like it is what it is!  I'm not sure what they do mean but I can see that they don't mean it's an infection so you don't need antibiotics (ABx).

Did you do anything to protect yourself from thrush when you were given the ABx?  Many doctors ignore the fact that taking an antibiotic will kill of most of your 'flora', the good along with the bad.  We normally have a nice healthy balance in our bodies which relies on good 'flora' to take care of everything, especially in our gut and somewhere as delicate as our cervix/vagina.  If you take one course of ABx followed by another, different on, this will wipe out all the friendly stuff and give the agressive bad guys such as yeast a chance to take over.

He said 'normal', so don't worry.  Does it itch, look red (or even grey) and have white flecks (something like small cottage cheese curds?)  This is definitely thrush and I would immediately get some LIVE natural yoghurt in there anyway you can (messy though!) until you can get some treatment.  Here in the UK you can buy Canesten OTC from the chemists.  I also suggest eating spoonfuls of  live yoghurt regularly throughout the day as the probiotics (friendly bugs) will help your gut recover from the ABx and will also get to your bladder and cervix eventually.  All you need to do is restore your natural balance.

Also avoid sugary food and drinks until you're sorted as these will aggravate the problem (the yeast bugs LOVE sugar and will thrive - you need to starve them).

Hope this helps.  Oh, don't use yoghurt for a couple of days before you see the doc or they will wonder what you've got up there (you can tell them, it's fairly standard practice among women who know!).

In future, always take probiotics (capsules or in live yoghurt) whenever you are prescribed an antibiotic.

Finally, beware of fluoroquinolone antibiotics e.g. Ciprofloxacin (but there are other names).  Read the discussions on this forum for more information.

    Hope this helps!
