Utrogestan 100mg

I recently had the mirena coil removed, it was my second coil in 10 years. I am using the Estradot 75micrograms patch so had to be prescribed progesterone and as I found the insertion of the mirena coil extremely difficult on my third occasion. So for contraceptive reasons I had to have the bar inserted in my arm. My doctor also prescribed Utrogestan 100mg to be taken on the 14th day of the month for 14 days in conjunction with the estradot patch. So far I have taken 12 tablets of the Utrogestan - 2 a night, I'm only on it since last Wednesday 14th October. My question is how long will it take for me to adjust to this new medication, as I am not sleeping well, I am really irritable, really down in myself, extremely tearful and really tired. I am taking the Utrogestan as prescirbed, which is at bedtime on an empty stomach. Do I need to give this medication time???? if so how long should I put up with these symptoms before I go to my doctor. Any advise greatly appreciated.

Are you perimenopausal? I am not a GYN professional. I could be totally wrong. but, I thought progesterone works pretty quickly. I thought the dose of oral progesterone is much higher than the Mirena. There are some people who are sensitive to progesterone. there are people who could not tolerate progesterone. estrogen probably takes longer to work fully. it is always good to double check with your doctor about the situation.

hi thanks for your reply, yes I am perimenopausal, I have been on HRT for 5 years now in conjunction with the mirena, but was only recently changed over to the progesterone tablet after the removal of the mirena as I needed to have progesterone because of the estrogen from the HRT patch, I had been getting this progesterone all along from the mirena but as that was removed I had to start taking progesterone in a tablet form which I am finding very difficult.

I was told by others that the progesterone in the Mirena is at a much lower dose than the progesterone people take orally. Make sure you double check with your doctor that it is not this dose of progesterone causing your new problems.

well if that's the case, you are more than likely correct, if the mirena had a lower dosage, I will phone my GP, thanks very much for your help, much appreciated.
