Vaccinations for Sri lanka

Posted , 3 users are following.

My daughter is going to Sri Lanka in April and will be working in a clinical setting for a month, does anyone know which vaccinations that are absalutely neccesary and which ones to leave as there seems to be a long list and I'm worried it's to much for her body, also she gets bit to bits every time she goes abroad and I mean really bad so any advice on preventing or reducing this with maybe homemade remedies or shop bought, thank you

Hi Quassi, good to see you. 😀O wow one of my favorite places on earth. ??🌎.So much to do and see. The culture is very interesting. The hotels are so,modern and lots of history. I have a friend went there and now I have lots of beautiful pics from the culture, animals,Light shows, hotels and much more. The sea and water falls are to die for!

You mean she gets bit by skeeters. I do to. Have her rub tea trea oil on and that will keep them away. Also bring lots of muscle rubs otc meds. And muscle relaxers. Then every day book a massage that will take all the kinks out and ready for the next day!

The best cure is the change of scenery! Lucky 🍀 girl.

    ??Hopexxx

    Hi Caroline

I've been to Sri Lanka many times and your right to have some concerns, but I have always found it to be fairly ok.

Mosquitos, if your Daughter is there for a month, and Anything like me, take a mosquito Net, they are many over the counters sprays and gels I have tried. But last year I found lifesystems expedition 100 plus 100 ml, I got it on Amazon I would take 2-3 cans for length of time as you need it 2-3 times daily, it has the highest contrast of Deet in it, and I got bitten once. I think it cost £8.49 a can, and can hoestly say 100% amazed at the difference, mention to your daughter it does have a funny smell so put it on 30 mins before you spray perfume or anything like that, but I hope these 2 suggestions help.

For the injections I would certainly have

These as standard, remember min 6 weeks before she goes minimum

    Hep A

    Tetanus

    Typhoid

As a precaution as the Mosquitos like her I would also think of

Japanese Encephalitus, this has started to become more risky over the last 18 months and as she's going for some time I wouldn't risk it.

You also need to be careful with Dengue fever, again transported via Mosquitos, not a lot you can do if you catch it, but stay hydrated, as you can become very sick with it. So any signs of fever, headaches, joint and muscular pain, then this will most likely be it.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Hope she had a wonderful time, it is great there and she will love it, will she be staying with a local family or has something been set up for her.

    Best regards

      Hi Caroline

Rabies, is your daughter going to a remote area? , or the farm, make sure you tell her just when she come across animals ie dogs and stuff don't stroke them.

TB and Meningitis personally I would say there not needed, I have been
