    Hi Su

The vagifem has worked very well for me for both my VA issues and frequency. However, it does cause discomfort the following morning after each and every time i use it as well as an uncomfortable amount of increased discharge. I have been using it for about a year now. It did take about 6-8 weeks for me too see the improvements. Good luck!

A year later, I am still doing warm water sitz baths to get rid of that feeling and it does help me. If the horrid burning returns, it usually means my estrogen levels are dropping again but the burning usually disappears with the next vagifem insertion. It is a balancing act that is for sure. I tried only using vagifem 1/week to control discharge but the burning was too much so i went back to 2/week. I had to chose the lesser of the 2 evils I suppose.

Usually you use it for 2 weeks then twice a week

my doctor and several other doctors say it might be better to use it 5x a week now a days

it does take about 6 weeks to feel better

try twice a week for several months then you can try more if ur doctor allows

there is also topical estrogen cream as well

I have found it very successful. I use pessaries. I tried the cream but it irritated.

I first started with vagifem and it burned me too.. then I got leg cramps that were worse than the burning. I switched to Estrace cream. The down side is you have to use it at bedtime so it stays in and it's a tad messy in the morning. The upside is I have zero burning with it and I can use it on my outer bits mainly around my urethra to stop that urgency to pee feeling. I started at 1 gram daily for 2 weeks. Went to 1 gram 2x a week and now down to .5 gram 2x a week. If I get a "dry" spell then I increase it until I'm thru the dry spell. Sometimes I only use it on the outer bits. My doc gave me free reign to use it to fit my needs. It does take several weeks no matter which one you use to see real progress. As your tissues start hydrating and building back up you'll notice a big difference. Do your kegel exercises too! Also, Google pelvic floor exercises. I went to pelvic PT because I also have bladder prolapse due to dry thin tissues and having a hysterectomy, I learned a ton going to that even though it was embarrassing lol.

    Good Luck! Don't give up!
