Vagifem (an estrogen hormone)?
Posted , 5 users are following.
Hi, I tend to have UTI after sex. The GP suggested that Vagifem should help with this and prescribed me a dose. But having read the details about it made me worry about breast cancer, cancer of uterus etc... Also this medicine comes under HRT. I cannot take HRT due to complications. So wondered if this may have same effect as the oral HRT. What are your experiences and thought on this medicine PLEASE ladies? Thank you

Do you mean take probiotic tablets? How do they help with UTI please? I eat a lot of yoghurt. But perhaps that's not enough.

try taking cranberry tablets with probiotics in them before sex...and maybe for a day or two after. always follow the directions on the bottle. you can get them in the vitamin aisle in the grocery store.

Peeing within 30 mins of having sex is meant to help . Also drinking plenty of water.

vagifem is an estrogen.. its to be inserted vaginally. I use the equivalent in cream form called estrace. Its safe to use bc very little if any gets in your blood stream. It feeds the tissues of the vagina and also the bladder. Our bladders depend on estrogen which is why so many of us experience bladders issues during and after menopause. I can't take oral hormones bc of family history of breast cancer, but I'm going on my second year with no problems and all my lady parts are happy. Do some more research on it, and you'll find that cancer patients do use these types of vaginal hormones. As a matter of fact a lot of nursing homes use these for female patients just for UTI reasons. It's not a quick fix, but needs to be a routine you and your doctor decide on.
Hope this helps a bit!
Good Luck!
