Vaginal Atrophy. When will it go away

Posted , 20 users are following.

Started out as burning then went to feeling like I was sitting on sandpaper now it is just miserable discomfort.  Occasionally lightens up but never goes away.  Been using Premarin cream  for a few months.  Feeling very discouraged.  Can not live like this forever.  Anyone have any thoughts?

    Hi Fern

Ask your doctor about Vagifem.  It really helps to feel normal again.  Did you make sure you don't have UTI?  I started with Estrace for 14 days then doctor had me start Vagifem 2xweek.  It takes several weeks to feel normal again...but you will get there!  Keep us posted.

      Hi Donna

Oh Donna I'm sorry to hear this!  Are you still using your Yuvafem? If so how many times a week?  Have you been using Estrace instead of Yuvafem.?  I haven't heard from you in a while and assumed that you have been doing well.  Are you seeing GP instead of GYN?  Please keep us posted.  I'm sure all will be okay....hang in there.

test for uti came back positive so back on bactrim . I am so sick of this. My Gp is so unconcerned over my vaginal atrophy. She told me today there are  people on life support worse off than I am? I left there kinda crushed.  Time to find a doctor that gets this pain

Sorry to hear about your UTI Donna.  Are you drinking a lot of water and going pee often?  Also in the mornings  drinking some warm lemon water.  Just squeeze some fresh lemon in cup of warm water.  Yes it sounds like you need to change Doctors.....please go to a GYN and make sure the doctor knows how to treat VA and with with compassion.  Have you been doing okay with the Yuvafem before this UTI?

I had lots and lots of burning also. It practically took over my life. I think if a doctor was going or have been going through all this they would be more sympathetic.

That's disgusting. Vaginal atrophy is a miserable condition. Has she got it? How would she know.?  She should be ashamed to be a female . It is life changingly miserable. I would change my doctor. You poor thing.

Donna, as I said in another post, some of these female doctors should get a hot poker up their vaginas so they could feel our pain.

I have exactly the same thing  I am so nervous because I have  a long car drive to ontario and I am worried I have tried a lot on products they made me burn more even hormones which I don’t like because they can cause cancer  I saw a male gynocologist and still no help he just kept prescribing hormones which did not help me at all,I sure is frustrating

and it hurts a lot especially when I sit here in canada you need recommendations to see a specialist so that means lots of taxis it costs so much but i am dearate our health care is a problem

    hope you feel better soon

      Hi Sheila

My heart goes out to you.  Have you been diagnosed with Atrophic Vaginitis?  As mentioned my doctor started me on the Estrace cream for 14 days then started me on Vagifem vaginally 2x weekly. Sometimes I would apply a small amount of Estrace cream on the outside if feeling much discomfort.  It takes a few weeks to really heal.  The small amount of hormone in Vagifem stays local.  Honestly for most of us.... Vagifem is what works to heal the AV.  Some ladies need Vagifem more than 2x weekly depending on the severity.  I hope this may help and you will get help soon.  You will feel normal again you just need proper help and some time.  Try hard not to stress.

      please keep us posted

Yes I have strophic vaginitis but I guess the gyno only comes to my clinic once a week and he didn’t seem to know too much about it or he just wasn’t interested

thank you for caring I have to go now and pick up papers for another clinic

I have been having uti infections a lot .I saw gyne  who confirmed VA. He put me on vagifem and it has helped a lot with uti VA .You use it for 2weeks every night and then 2/3 times  weekly. He reassured me it was v safe. To use. It can take up to3/6 months to be effective. I am to use it indefinitely. Try and get to see your GP.She actually was going to give it to before I saw Gyne.Good Luck

      Yes in my life.....

the same happened to me with getting many UTI's before I was diagnosed with VA.......thankfully I have a wonderful GYN doctor. And yes once we have VA we will have to use Vagifem indefinitely........but grateful it gives us quality if life.....such a blessing.  Yes, it does take time for the Vagifem to heal the vaginal area.....but ladies hang in there and be patient.  Some will experience pressure to pee but in time that goes away as well!
