Vaginal discharge

Hi. I am almost 5 weeks post op for a total hysterectomy, front and back wall prolapse repair and TVT. I seem to have stopped bleeding but now I have vaginal discharge which I read is normal. But my question is How much do you regard as normal as it is coming out of me like a period. It's horrible. There is no apparent smell. It's a greeny yellowy sort of colour and it driving me mad as my pad is sticking to my vagina where I have external stitches. Has anyone else has this. Is it normal?

Hi, poor you. I had hysterectomy many years ago and had a front and rear prolapse done 4 weeks ago, the thought of having them at the same time, sounds pretty tough. The discharge that you describe is normal and I'm pretty sure the amount will vary from person to person. I found the more I walked about the more I had but it is much less now than it was. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you Carolyn. I've rang Drs and my swab that I had taken last week has came back clear so pleased no infection. I expected to get some but honestly some days it's really heavy and horrible. Never mind. Smile and put up with it. Haha.

Hi Gillian, yesterday and today I'm actually feeling a little improvement, only took paracetamol at bed time, didn't have any during the day. Stitches not really a problem. Not totally pain free but much better. I've also found sitting in an armchair easier rather than the recliner. Been for a short walk this morning too.

      Hope you're doing okay

Green/yellow is often a sign of infection but without other symptoms such as offensive smell, temperature and pain then perhaps your GP may want to take a swab.

Yes I had that and HATED it! I am pretty sure it was connected to the ecoli infection I had in bladder for 4wks post-op. It went away very slowly when got treatment for the ecoli bladder infection. I wish I had of just gone to the Dr. way earlier on than I did with mine, to get a swab done.

Hi I had this problem for 12 weeks!!! I had similar surgery to you on 5th Feb (14 weeks post op) Ended up been quite sore from constantly wearing a pad. You will be pleased to know it does stop and is all quite normal. Mine just suddenly stopped at 12 weeks and I have been fine since, feel great now and so pleased I had it all done together smile No more periods woo hoo and no bulge from prolapse biggrin I'm walking and cycling again regularly!

My consultant told me as the stitches dissolve it produces discharge, seems to be more common when you've had vaginal hysterectomy together with post & ant repair.

good luck with the rest of your recovery xxx

Immmm. The yellowy/green in copious amounts is "normal"? I did wonder that. It was gross. It is half the reason I joined here way back in Nov. But after asking repeatedly I couldn't find anybody else with the same. I only had anterior repair with TOT sling so your theory on also having other things at same time isn't maybe a good one.
