Hi, I had a vaginal hysterectomy on 20th July so am now 5 weeks post op. I was told to do nothing for 6 weeks, and definitely no heavy lifting for 3 months due to risk of prolapse, so no shopping. I started walking quite early and have no trouble with that but I do get bad pains if I do to much of anything. Listen to your body if it doesn't like it stop. I also bled at 3 weeks and think this is normal I believe it is to do with the stitches dissolving. Really you should be doing as little as possible still but we all know that that isn't always possible.

      Hi

I just had a vaginal hysterectomy yesterday. Everyone told me 6weeks, no lifting or housework. Actually no work at all.

I feel pretty good, cant wait to go home today as the nurses are great but they seem to come by every 2hrs, so between my peeing all the time because of the iv and the other lady I share a room with talking I feel like I got no sleep.

Good luck to you. I am glad my surgery is over.

Hi glad your doing OK nurses where good to me as well, keep me up dated how how you go please. It's so hard not doing anything family and friends have being a big help x

It is going to be so hard for me not to clean my house and laundry etc, I am one of those women that enjoys it. Lol. I have a great husband though and he is going to do his best to help. The nurses are great but nothing is better then going home. I have a 7yr old son and I look forward to having some time off with him before school starts. I work a lot and life is always so rushed, so I intend to listen and have a break.

Keep in touch if anything unusual develops or even if not! I think this is a great way to share experiences with others, it has helped me a lot.

Yes am the same love cleaning lol , hope you can go home today I was only in 1night but never left hospital till about 7 pm.I will keep in touch x

As others have said, don't do too much! Did they not send you home with a leaflet? Only lifting a kettle with 2 cups of water in it for the first week at least.

It really is not worth trying to do too much! You will be back in hospital, and end up taking a LOT longer to get right.

Let others do the housework if you can....delegate!

That didn't happen here - neanderthal hubby....but i just thought to hell with it...I am not making myself ill for anyone!

5 weeks poast op now, and not feeling too bad.

Hi yes got leaflet but wanted to see how everyone had got on, partner was great at first but now getting arse with having to do stuff, are u cookingmeals and washing pots? X

Some blokes are just not cut out for domesticity, are they. lol. Or if they are, it doesn't last long.

I made sure I had lots of food in the freezer...spag bols, curries, chilli, etc, so I could just get it out, defrost, and serve with rice/spagetti, etc.

The old man washed up....I just left it, and he had no choice! Didn't last long, though. Ten days, tops. Still not lifting, pushing or pulling. Those things you must keep away from, or you will do yourself no good. xx

I think it depends. I had my surgery yesterday morning, this afternoon I did a load of laundry and tomorrow after my shower I am looking forward to a nice walk with my dog. I sm being careful as I dont want to hurt myself but I like to be useful. I feel tired more often than usual.....

This doing nothing is harder than said.

WHAT!??? Marketa, you must have the pain threshold of an elephant.....but seriously, you are doing yourself some damage. If the hospital knew what you were doing, they would have a FIT! Please consult your Doctor before you do anything else.

My pain threshold is good, and granted, I had a TAH, but the day after surgery I could only shuffle to the bathroom for a wee.

Morning I thought the same when so message please please go careful you won't do yourself any good trust me!!!! Hope your doing OK vauxhall girl x

Hi Theresa. Not doing too bad, thanks. Hope you are taking it easy as much as possible. I am off into the bloomin rain now. Can't believe this crummy weather.....August???

Hi tum still sore and bloated was u like that 3 weeks in, yes weather not great but think it's going to get better! Kids go back next week and it always gets better when there back lol x

    • Posted

Yes Theresa, still sore and bloated at your stage. The bloating can go on for a while I am afraid. Not me personally, but reading around here, some women still got the "swelly belly" a couple of months down the line. Like a lot of things medical, it changes from one person to the next.

If you overdo it, that will make it swell, so keep away from lifting, pushing and pulling, and it will help. x

No worries here! I have a tough europen background lol!

I am really ok. My face swelled up for some reason so just laying here with a washcloth on my face. My dog Monty has not left my side. I got my son ready for day camp this morning and that felt good. I do plan to rest today and watch reruns if Greys anatomy.

Pain threshold of an elephant? Lol! Thanks for the laugh, that is so funny.

    • Posted

Funny anyways! I am being very lazy today. You'd think my chihuahua had a hysterectomy, he is out like a light! Lol.

Well if the weather where you are is as bad as where I am, it should definitely be a "duvet day" for the both of you. :D

Hi that's what I have done today the sun is only just coming out, feel bit better for taking easy today xx

Found out yesterday how painfull gas can be! Omg- that was rough!
    • Posted

HA! Yes! I am told peppermint tea can help with that. smile Hope you have a better day of it today. Think it stays with you for a couple of weeks...though hopefully not in a painful way!

    • Posted

Yes, sometimes you just have to listen to your body. smile Hope today is a better day. Might see a bit more sun! *ever hopeful*
    • Posted

Gonna try the tea. Gas really hurts, no wonder babies cry.
    • Posted

      lol...indeed!

Think the gas might be caused by the intestines making their way south, to fill the gap where the uterus was. But that's just me guessing. Everyone seems to get it after a Hyster.

Oh happy day! I am a sexy beast! So glad my husband is going to work and I can fart all I need in the presence of my dog! Lol.

      How are you hon?

    • Posted

I found it more embarrassing going to the shops and not quite being able to hold it back! eek

Yes all ok thanks...ticking along, avoiding lifting anything more than a full kettle! wink

Hope you are just jogging along and being careful. I found passing the time with all those little jobs in the office a good way to pass the day, but not go straining anything. cheesygrin

I ended up in emerg yesterday. Had a fever at 3am and waited to speak to my doctor, they sent me to hospital. I was put on antibiotics and fluids and had an ultrasound.

All ok just a mild infection. I was so sore after the 30minut drive to the hospital, all roads seemed to be under construction too! I spent the day in bed today watching Grey's anatomy and eating freezies..... At least I have stuff for the pain.

    • Posted

Oh crikey! Just what you don't need! sad

Rest as much as you can - let your body concentrate on getting over the infection.

      Take care of you! xx

Not too bad today. Lot less pain. We are in Canada and I think the weekend is going to be nice here. Still glad this is done.

Glad you are feeling a bit better today - bad headaches are the pits! sad

Weather was nice earlier....rain here now. Boo!

I walked my dogs the afternoon I got home after my op, my neighbour had a 'panic attack' she shouted out to me 'what are you doing out already'? or words to that effect, I didn't know what the fuss was about, have to say I didn't do laundry for a few days, be careful Marketa don't go lifting wet washing, I am 8 months post op and still have a problem lifting a heavy load of wet washing.
    • Posted

      Thanks Phoebe,

I am realizing that I should listen. I felt great after the surgery, might hsve been the morphine ! Lol.

I did better today, husband brought laundry down for me and I supervised him doing it! Oh, so funny. Our son (he is 7yrs old), said that it was the 1st time daddy has ever done the laundry!

I am working on my walks, I have kind of a pulling pain when up for too long. I might get a girdle!

Good luck girls, seems like a long road but will be better.

I bought a pair of Sloggi control panties, they just protect your tummy a little bit without being too constricting.
    • Posted

Glad you are taking a back seat a bit more! In the longrun, you will heal quicker if you take it easy - especially the lifting!

I got some support pants too...was amazed at the nice cumfy control it gave to my healing tummy muscles! smile

    • Posted

Crikey Phoebe, you were lucky you didn't do yourself some injuries! They do like you to do some walking after your op, but only ten minutes the first day, then build up a few minutes from there.

It does sound like you may have done a bit of damage though...I am 6 weeks post op now, and can lift a reasonably heavy load of washing now without any trouble.

I have been very lucky right through, I have never taken any kind of pain relief, never needed it, not even a paracetamol, only problems I have had are the infamous 'swelly belly' and sluggish bowels the latter is really frustrating as I am vegetarian and can't eat any more veg than I do already, my GP says that things can take a little while to get back to normal though, I count myself very lucky considering what some poor ladies go through afterwards. biggrin
    • Posted

Yes, I have to say, reading some of the things others are suffering certainly makes you feel grateful for getting off lightly!

Drinking plenty of water also helps with the bowels...I have never drunk so much lemon squah in my life! I usually only 'go' twice a week, but have tried to drink a litre a day - that and Muesli in the morning. smile

    • Posted

Yes I have felt waterlogged at times, I have to say I am not particularly good at drinking AT ALL! I can go all day then think to myself that I have only had 1 cup of coffee in the morning and I have gone until 7pm...not good, I have to remind myself to drink, I was so good in hospital drinking at least 1 and half jugs of water each day ( was in 3 days) but went back to old habits as soon as I got home, I'll add here that I am retired so not working all day when you can easily forget as you are working so intently so I have no excuses rolleyes, have been baking nice wholemeal bread this morning, perhaps that will help as well.

Off to take my 2 doggies out for their second walk of the day, QUICK before it rains again lol

      Phoebe

Same here...never normally drink enough...but carry a bottle of made up squash with me now - or have it by the comp, or wherever, and take swigs every now and then. smile

Hope you beat the rain! x

Hi hope your doing OK?!! Just want to ask seen your op do u go for wee more ??just I am never ever had to get up in the night but am up twice a night now and in the day loads more then I use to xx

    • Posted

I do go more at night too. Not sure why but as long as there is no burning it should be fine. I got constipated from my pain meds and had to take a stool softener+laxative.

I feel more tired then before.

      Any other issues?

    • Posted

I have not being tired it's just the wee n alot, think I may have done to much today tum hurts a bit. How are u doing? X
    • Posted

Yes am doing ok thanks. Hope the same for you, and you haven't been overdoing it today. x

I did wee more in the early weeks. But I put that down to drinking more. Now I don't drink so much I rarely get up in the night.

I finally went out of the house! First time since aug 24th. We went to the local grocery store and it felt good to be out! I am home laying down now. Next tuesday at 2weeks post op, I start walking my son to school. It is not far so I am looking forward to that. Definitely doing better then last week.

Glad to hear you are ok too.

    • Posted

Takes it out of you a bit, doesn't it. smile

Walking your son to school will be a good thing! You might want a bit of a rest before heading home though, if his school is any distance.

They recommend walking, so that's cool. smile
