vaginal inflammation with no diagnosis or treatment that helps!!!!

I have been suffering for years with extreme burning during intercourse, i feel itchy i have a lot of discharge all the time and am bright red and sore inside. examinations are extremely uncomfortable. I have also started getting little sore spots on one labia the left on the edge that feel sore (no STD been tested for everything twice). i have been tested for everthing and had biopsies, colpscopy, MRI and Hystersoscopy and all come back normal as do swabs(no thrush). slides show a large amount of basal cells which indicate an inflammatory problem. I have had antibiotics, treatment for thrush, vaginal oestrogen, vaginal steroids, vaginal clyndamycin and nothing helps. I take high dose probiotics and no help and only use natural panty liners which i have to wear due to the discharge and use natural santitary towels too. being referred for a second opinion once doctors start taking referrals again but its getting me down. i feel sore and tender when i wipe down there and its so depressing that nothing helps. considered trying topical hydrocortisone ...those with lichen Planus does it help relieve internal vaginal symptoms if only used externally as convinced that what this is although doctor says desquamative vaginitis . I had CIN 1 on a cervical biopsy. They didnt request a biopsy after my routine smear it was just discovered during the course of investigations but my consultant thinks that is due to the degree of inflammation i have and that is not causing my symptoms and he isnt that concerned about that side of things and feels it will resolve once the inflammatory side of things settles as CIN 1 usually does (he is a gynea Cancer specialist also fir mcmillan) . i am having a repeat smear . Any ideas???

Hey Friend, have suffered simmilarly. Are your hormones deficient when tested ie estradiol - not sure if you are postmenopausal as far as setting the scene. I Was dx'd w desquamative vaginitis responsive to clydamycin insert for so many days but also was on hormone replacement which wasnt enough to bring hormones up from where I had arophoed-with actual shrinking and tissue loss. Lichen schlerosis was suspected but ultimately it most resembled DiV. Looking at whole person I am a 41 year old women (it began at 38) with rapid onset autoimmune neurologic and endocrine disease- it caused autonomic neuropathy including and distrupted my hpa axis-hormones. I have read a lot and seen a lot of women with autoimmune issues that include vaginal issues. Ivig blood infusions have helped so very much to turn back on my functions including hormone function and temporarily stop the autoimmunity. It took a almost two years to recover enough function for my hormones-menses to turn back on . The whole takedown reoccured in Dec and not only did I have to restart hormonal replacement but I lost my menses and tissues started going down hill. I recovered yet again a month to two later. Every time a big attack takes down my hormonal function the painful signs and symptoms return as you describe. My illness is all about inflamation.

If I had to guess I would say yes something is continuing to cause inflamation for you. Have you had an ANA run? to test for autoimmunity? SOOOOO sorry. People have NO idea about the suffering involved here.

Also has anyone tried you on steroids? if safe if topical not helping?? I have a great gyn specialist that I was lucky to find who gets it-a guy actually! Clynda inserts more help w inflamation he said.......

hi thanks for your reply. No i have not had my hormone levels checked however i do have regular periods but they are heavy. I have tried clindamycin suppositories with no effect and neither did oestrogen suppositories. i do think it could be auto immune related. i will ask my consultant all these things though. Thanks again.

Sure. So sorry you are suffering. I hope you get relief or answers soon. I think you said they already ruled out sti's and all infections including yeast, gardnerella and bv.....there is no arguing that it isnt inflamed and irrirated-something causes it... wish you feeling better!

I have a very similar story. Did you have any super stressful event around the time your symptoms first began, by any chance?

I have the same thing going on with me and it's been going on for about 8 years now, sadly. I thought maybe it was due to some hormone getting overlooked. It seems to get quite a bit better for some reason when I'm on Spironolactone but I try not to take it. Were you on any sort of pills before? Keep your head up chick. There is an answer out there we just have to find it
