vaginal or keyhole ? best options

I had my hysteroscopy yesterday and a hysterectomy might be on the cards due to adenomyosis. Im 51 and out of the blue i had a post menopausal bleed and thought I'd better get it checked out.

My overies and cervix are fine so guess it will just be a partial one but will know more when I see the consultant in 2 weeks. Luckily I have BUPA through work so will be sorted quickly.

Any op tips gratefully received x

I had mine keyhole back in February but had to have that way as I had cancer but luckily they caught it early but the only trouble I have is lifting heavy items even now so if you get chance to have vaginal I would hope everything works out for you Lyn x

Hi Lesley, I had a total Vaginal hysterectomy and BSO in December last year I had been diagnosed with grade 1 endometrial cancer,, I didn't experience any post op pain at all, I had a spinal block before the GA and you are tipped backwards on the operating table, charming thought aye?eekLOL, I was offered Paracetomol and Ibuprofen but never need anything, You have to be very careful with heavy lifting/pulling/pushing etc for at least 6 weeks afterwards, I find that even after a year my tummy swells a little if I lift something really heavy or I turn the mattress on the bed on my own, though it's not nearly like when I first came out of hospital.

    Hi Lesley

I had a vaginal hysterectomy at the beginning of August. My gynaecologist said it would be less intrusive. Only had uterus taken but overies left.

I can honestly say I was petrified of the pain I thought I would be in afterwards.... But to my amazement I had no pain. I know they dose you up and i continued with the painkillers for a week after and gradually reduced them but no pain after that either.

I thought I would be really sore down below but to be honest, the only uncomfortable feeling I had was the catheta and the padding that they removed after but seriously no pain!

Was the best thing I ever had done due to years of prolonged heavy bleeding. I still have to remind myself not to lift heavy objects but must admit I felt well enough to go body boarding last month.

Listen to your body, you'll know if you're overdoing things!

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

    Take care

    Jo
