Vaginal/Urethra burning

Hello everyone, I am 26, never had sexual intercourse, tested negative for everything in PAP smear, urine test, urine culture, have never had a UTI before, clear pelvic ultrasound and physcial check was fine as well. I do not have frequency or urgency to urinate, my urine is clear, no blood and no odor.

However, I have had on and off burning everyday in urethra and vagina for 2 months??

Hi! I had a similar issue last year (but no vaginal burning) and it turned out I had a UTI. The standard cultures didn't detect it but my urogyno sent out a specimen to a specialized lab that has more sensitive tests and tests for more than e. coli (which causes most UTIs). It wound up returning two more times in the following three months and I had to take a six month course of macrobid but that finally cleared it up. The answer is probably yes, but were you checked for a yeast infection? That might explain the vaginal burning, especially if you've been on antibiotics recently. If these are all negative, maybe get evaluated by a pelvic physical therapist. I have interstitial cystitis and pelvic floor disorder and it helped me so much. Best of luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you, how were you diagnosed with interstitial cystitis and pelvic floor disorder ? what tests did they do to confirm?

I had all the same tests you did but the issues that led to the IC diagnosis were urgency and frequency. After six weeks of symptoms and no positive testing, I was diagnosed with IC in September 2017. I started the IC diet (still mostly on it now), medication and bladder training and saw some improvement after a few months. Then I started having almost daily utethral pain last February (gone by morning but worse when sitting), assumed it was a facet of IC and called my doctor after I realized it had lasted four weeks. She caught the infection and referred me to pelvic PT after feeling very high muscle tension and spasms during the pelvic exam (aka pelvic floor disorder). Apparently it usually causes pelvic pain, but I didn't have any beyond urethral. The therapist helped me so much with urinary urgency/frequency and the muscle tension, which contributed to my bladder issues. Pelvic floor disorder is a catch-all term: you could have low or high muscle tone, spasms, pain, etc. But there's treatment and hope to feel normal again.

Do you ever check the PH level of your urine?

When mine is highly acidic (in the 5's) I will often have burning when I urinate, too.

If I can get it up into the "7's" - the PH level it is - it feels much better to pee.

You can get a roll of PH strips from Amazon and just stick it in your urine stream as you are urinating and check the color against the chart.

One trick to make your urine alkaline quickly (there is a diet to follow, too - the alkaline diet ) is to put 3/4 spoonful of baking soda in a tall glass of water. Not good if you have high blood pressure, however. it should take the sting out of your urine.
