I had my operation on 2nd December and I thought my recovery was going really well but I'm in a lot of pain again, is this normal? Could it be down to doing to much because I felt well, I'm scared that I've caused some damage as I'm in as much pain now as I was just days post op. Please help xx

Hi Lauren. I'm at the same stage as you (op 2nd Dec) so can't offer any words of wisdom but I know what the anxiety is like. Can you spend a couple of days lying on the sofa? If it goes away then probably due to overdoing it. I did way too much over Christmas but have had my feet up since the evening of Boxing Day and feel heaps better. So I think it was mainly down to doing too much. I think stuff swells up when you're on your feet too much. I'm certainly still quite uncomfortable but have put this down to the healing process. Hope you feel better soon.

Did all your pain come bk from doing too much, I'm not sure I can take much more if the pain x

The pain is due to your stitches healing and everything tightening usually. Rest is important and regular pain medication.

lauren I think your pain will go if you rest and take painkillers. Take them regularly and don't wait for the pain to be really bad before you do.

I think I actually had more pain than in the post op phase (though I obviously had strong painkillers then). But it was different. I was convinced I'd stretched something. I'm not back to the way I felt week 2 but the resting is definitely helping.

My sister had the same op about three years ago and says the most difficult bit is just after you start to feel better because you still need to rest but think you're better. I definitely think Matron is right, take pain relief (my docs said ibuprofen and paracetamol) and rest rest rest.

    Hi,

Hi, just to say I am week 5 now and the same. It came back last week on and off and still  mostly quite bad on one side. And I'm really not over doing it .

I am scared too and was wondering whether to see the dr but think just more pain meds, haven't been on them really...and rest..  for a change.

It does feel as if everything is tightening plus  a few sharp  stabs now and  then but it just seems to go on and on.

    Good  luck to you all.
