Hi I'm on 50 mg valdoxan, I'm not finding it much good for my depression, it helps me sleep well at least it was when I started now I'm finding i fall asleep quickly then I'm twisting all night , I've previously been on lots of different meds , last lot were cymbalta, lecimital &amitripyline , quite high doses too I attended a psychologist & psychiatrist counciling, ECT , I went through a lot , had too deal with a lot from my past including a rape , my partner having cancer which he nearly didn't make it plus had three small kids got no help from anyone,I eventually came through it and came off all meds started exercising lots , I piled on the weight while on antidepressants, 4 stone it was awful, I lost almost all the weight , then last year I found out I was pregnant it was a huge shock as we were told we would more than likely not have any more babies after the shock I was happy, unfortunately I had an awful pregnancy, I ended up I couldn't walk or anything, plus had a very tramitic birth where the baby & myself got into very bad distress we nearly lost him thank god he was ok , I have a fairly high pain threshold but on this birth it was awful, I tore ligaments in my shoulder plus had to be remitted to hospital for severely high blood pressure, then the baby was dairy intolerance & had reflux he cried for 4 months till I got it sorted , he's now 9 months,I struggled on knowing the depression was creeping back in I have disc gone In my back so I was in pain with that and went to gp he put me on valdoxan I was so scared of going back onto meds mainly caus of the weight gain & loss of libido but he said this would help me sleep plus help the depression & has no real side affects, but I'm nt feeling much better I had a breakdown over Xmas just lost it , now I don't no what to do I'm scared to try something else and it's so hard to find ones with little side affects, I would appreciate any advice anyone has , I'm 36 mother of 4 my eldest is 17 & I'm suffering with depression since before I had her , this Xmas was the first time I ever came close to feeling like ending my life thank god I got though that but at the min I'm very low ,

Thanks in advance:-)

I asked my Psychiatrist about Valdoxan for my depression and she knew nothing of that drug.   Of course it may be because it is not available in the states.  I found this fact fascinating.   There are other anti-depressant drugs that do not cause weight gain and libido problems, just not a lot of them.  I am on Bupropion (formerly known as Amfebutamone), which does not have the typical bad side effects of depression.  There is hope for you to find the right drugs for your depression.

I am on Bupropion because Paxil was causing carb cravings, libido problems, and it didn't clear the depression brain fog that was far worse in the mornings. Bupropion doesn't have these side effects.  Before I tried Nefazodone, which also doesn't have those side effects, but that caused jaundice and extreme fatigue in me within days and it is no longer available in North America but may be available in Ireland.  Also Nefazodone tends to be prescribed on its own, without any booster SSRI medication, because the combination is very likely to cause severe side effects.  Sertraline is commonly prescribed here in the states because most people don't get the carb cravings and libido problems common in other SSRIs. Tametraline is similar to Sertraline in its actions and lack of normal SSRI side effects but it is not available in the states, but it may be available in Ireland.   It is said within a few years that more Sertraline-like drugs may become available with better effectiveness and less side effects. Good luck and God bless.
