Valium any success?

Posted , 5 users are following.

I went to ER a few days ago from dehydration of all the vomiting of this darn MD. The ER Dr gave me low dose of Valium for the dizziness 2mg. It did subside my dizziness but it came back.

Has anyone had success with this medication do you use it as a preventive? Or a rescue med? How many mg?

Have you seen an ENT for this problem to know that you have MD.if so did he give you meclizine after all testing ?also did he discuss diet management ..low sodium ?valium is usually only used to reduce the anxiety during the attack but I find meclizine and anti nausea meds in suppositories is what helps most not valium

      Hi Jane,

Yes my Ent diagnosed me with MD. I have tried meclazine but absolutely no successes with it. As for anti nausea meds I have been taken the one that you place under your tongue. I unfortunately have not found anything that works to stop the dizziness once it starts.

My Dr. has prescribed me Meclezine & Valium together and they both help me with the dizziness. Of course along with watching my sodium intake.

Hmm good to know I will try both. How do you watch your sodium intake how many mg? Is it hard to watch everyday

Xanax and Valium calm me and the lessening of stress helps curb the dizziness.   As most MD sufferers will tell you.  I'd take Xanax if I were you, as Valium is too strong and addicting.

I use Xanax/Valium when start to sense an bad episode may be coming.  I woud never just take them on a daily basis as a preventative, or for mild dizzyness.  I don't need a drug problem on top of MD.

They say 1500-2000 mg sodium a day .it is challenging but I think it's the most important thing to help decrease dizziness ..I have been lucky and my vertigo attacks are much less frequent as I've gotten older (I'm 61 and this started 11 years ago for me) I also curb sugar and never drink alcohol ..really once the vertigo attacks came on all I do is take meclizine and stay still and sleep until the episode is over .many websites talk about low sodium diets and sometimes doctors give patients diuretics if diet doesn't help!did your dr talk about a diuretic ?

      Hi Jane,

I've been on a duiertic for about 5 days now. I wish these would work sooner! And Dr didn't twll me about low sodium I've just been trying to watch it since I've read a lot about it on here and online.

I'm REALLY surprised this ENT didn't talk about diet before putting you on a diuretic ..maybe you need a second opinion !just curious did he do a brain MRI and hearing tests for you ?any other tests ?

I've had such a run around with this! I am looking into getting a second opinion. I got the hearing and MRI test done. But all the Dr said was first we will try the duiertic and it might take a few weeks until you notice a difference. If you don't then we will try steroids and finally surgery is last option.

I would definetly get a second opinion and in the meantime watch your sodium .menieres is hard to diagnose and it could be another condition that can be treated by a physical therapist .

    Hi,

I was given the generic of valium, 2mg, to take as needed.  I take it when I feel vertigo is coming on, and it seems to help head it off.  It supposedly sedates the vestibular nerve, which is what goes wacky during a vertigo attack. It also relaxes the stomach so the nausea is better.  It is a low dose and I don't take it often, as I don't get vertigo much anymore.  Meclizine did nothing for me.  Low sodium diet, the diuretic, no alcohol, low caffeine and I seem to do ok.  Woozy from time to time, but not the vicious vertigo I had in the beginning.
