Hi Poppy - nope I'm afraid I don't have any experience of Valtrex or anti-viral drugs, I guess something worth discussing with the doc. I know the feeling when you just want to try something to give you new hope towards recovery - remember recovery will come, it really will. Thinking of you.

Hey Poppy. I went on Acyclovir for 3 months.  It’s basicakky the same thing.

I don’t know if it made me a little better or not. It certainly didn’t return me back to normal- which was the hope- so I got off it a few weeks ago. I’m at 8.5 months into mono. My doc said that anti virals can help some people of what they are dealing with is chronic EBV infection.

I actually did try Valtrex a few weeks back before I tested positive for mono because I was convinced I had recurring Shingles without the rash. One of my main symptoms has been a swollen left lymph node behind my jaw that radiates pain toward my chin and into my ear, which is the same as I felt when I had shingles along my left jaw a year back. The thing with Valtrex though is I really felt it work! Both pain and flu-like symptoms disappeared after taking 3000mg per day for a few days. Now that I have this mono diagnosis though I am not sure what to make of the Valtrex working. Either placebo or it surpasses EBV to some extent also. Or maybe I have internal shingles  AND mono... Hi Poppy,

I am taking a natural antiviral, Elderberry. I can’t post links as the moderator deletes them, but the brand is Sambucol. I picked it up at a large supermarket chain.. I am also drinking tons to ginger tea, these things are supposed to help, plus I’m taking tons of vitamin c and d.

PS. I have a confirmed case of CMV not EBV Mono, who knows if that makes a difference. lol

How do you find the elderberry Jen? I'm looking for any good ideas that might help fight bacteria at the moment too for prostatitis I have been suffering with (sorry for the detail of that).

Yes I'm not too sure if or how CMV affects differently from EBV, it was EBV that I had when I had it but from my only basic understanding CMV just causes something very much the same with the same kind of course and recovery - hoping that can mean that things are going to be looking up for you soon.

Hi Kaxja, glad to hear that you are finding Valtrex working for you and do hope so much you are feeling better and moving towards full recovery.

Antivirals are something I've never taken and don't know much about, I guess it's the kind of thing that's very important to discuss with your doctor first and not just jump onto lightly. Although this virus can take time to recover from thankfully most people do get there even without these kind of drugs. Just hoping that you are feeling much better anyway and glad you are seeing progress.
