Valtrex and relationships with non-infected partners

Hello,

I have recently discloused my HSV1-g diagnosis to a potential partner. Gratefully, my disclosure was a success and things are moving forward between us. We have not yet have sex, but we will soon. I have not had sex since my diagnosis because I am afraid of sharing this infection because it has happened before to a close friend of mine while I was not on medication and this was all very very new to me. It hurt me so much that I hurt my friend and I will never want to experience that again.

Obviously, moving foward I will be using Valtrex prior to sexual relations. Has anyone have success with using Valtrex and condoms? I need people with EXPERIENCE to answer this, not internet facts.

What about Valtrex and oral sex?

I want to be very very safe and protect my potential lover.

Please help and thanks,

Mona

I haven't had experience w it yet, but I think you might want these facts to give you piece of mind and congrats on a successful disclosure!

FYI, you can find people w that experience at H Opportunity.

Risk of female to male transmission for hsv 2, abstaining during signs and symptoms, sex 2-3xs a week for a year are as follows:

    - no meds or condoms:4%

    - meds or condoms: 2%

    - both: 1%

Hsv 1 is supposed to shed half the time on the genitals as hsv2, so you're supposed to cut those numbers down on half.

So you passed gHSV 1 to your friends genitals?/dis you guys use condoms?

Stats look good but it's hard to trust stats when they also say that gHSV-1 does not shed as much and I have experience that it totally does...

Unfortunately I did... I was young and gHSV1 was very new to me. Have been abstaining since... kind of afraid to have sex again.

Well, it doesn't shed as much, but it still does. There always will be the risk of getting it.

I can tell you that I have a friend who spent 7yrs w his ex wife and never got it. I have several friends that have never passed it and they have hsv 2. I can totally relate, I'm terrified to have sex again for the same reasons and haven't since I got this. What was your friends reaction? Did he handle it well? How do you know you didn't pass it from oral sex and not from the genitals? Also you weren't on medication and you yourself admitted your lack of knowledge on the virus. You're strapped w much more knowledge now, than you were before.

The moderators on the site I recommend have had it 15-30yrs and only one passed it and that'd cause she didn't know what she had

    Hello!

Did u have an outbreak or recovering from an outbreak when u had sex with your friend? Perhaps your friends immune system was low too.

I only use valtrex (2 pills for 5 days) when I have an outbreak.

My past experience is my ex bf of 3.5 yrs did not contract HSV 1 even though we had unprotected sex at times. We did not have oral and stayed away from having sex during OB and probably a week after healing cause I was so paranoid
