Variation of strength in different brands

I have been taking Zopiclone 3.75 for over ten years.

They work very well and I sleep 7 hours easily.

Recently, my pharmacy has given a brand that I have not heard about. I have no problem with a change iof brand, my problem is this particular Zopiclone does not have effect.

Has anyone noticed a difference in the strength between brands?

It's just a brand of zopiclone, one of several.

I haven't noticed a difference in strength of different brands, but my daughter noticed a difference with zolpidem, and she googled it and apparently there is a lot of online discussion about this, and specific info on which brands customers find reliable.  The only problem i had was, i have regularly used zolpidem extended release whch comes with a hard coating on the outside of the pill, which has something to do with the extended release. One time, my pharmacy gave me a different brand. i didn't think there would be a problem but when i put the pill in my mouth, before i could get the water to my mouth to swallow it, a second or so, the coating was coming off in my mouth.  That has never happened before, the coating doesn't come off. But on that pill, it immediately came off upon making contact with my tongue and a terrible taste came from the pill. I spit it out and returned the prescription to the pharmacy and told them it was faulty and i wanted a different brand.  So, i have no doubt there can be differences in brands.

Hi Katey.  I noticed a change in strengths when i ordered  online. When you get them from the doctor and proper UK pharmacies they are always ok. Where do you get yours from. If prescibed , they will definitely be ok, just a different distributor. Online, you take a chance and the tablets dont look the same.

Hi Vivien, Thank you for replying.

My gp prescribed the Zopiclone the pharmacy next door dispensed the Actavis Zopiclone, which is definately weaker! Who knows where the pharmacy buys from?!

I have never known the National Health brands to be inferior. The Activas ones from online pharmacy i am sure were weaker, but better than nothing.  Where do you get yours from.

Hi Katey, they should be ok.  Are they oval shaped, if so, then they are ok.  The online ones i got worked, but took a long time to take effect.  I changed my surgery and found a sympathetic dr. who had no problem at all prescribing them for me. My other gp just gave me one months supply, then put me on anti depressants. I felt terrible for weeks with hardly any sleep, so glad i am able to get some more  from a legitimate source.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who has discovered how much weaker Actavis' Zops are. It's true alright.

The original Zimovane were the best, followed by Zopicon. Hate being stuck with Actavis.

the pharmacy's give out the cheapest generic brand.  You can ask your G.P. for more of an original brand e.g. Zimovane, but they might have financial restraints also.  I was told by the chemist, that they give out certain brands based on cheapest price. At least you could tell you g.p. that the one you are getting does not work well.

Hi.  I have for the pasr fifteen years been getting Zopiclone made by the Sanofi company, but recently when going ton the chemist to get a repeat script i have been given Actavis brand, I dont think these brands are as effective as the original ones. I think other people have remarked on this too. Unfortunately, that isn all that seems to be available at the moment. Even Boots are dishing out these and they are the same ones as i have bought off the internet in the past. They take ages to work, it seems to me.

Agreed. Yes I've also said in the past Actavis zops are significantly weaker than other brands (Zopicon, Zimovane etc) which (for me anyway) make them more expensive than their stronger counterparts because i take 3 instead of 2 to compensate for the lesser strength....ergo i have to buy them more frequently obviously. Also they seem to have a much shorter half-life and yes do take longer to work too.
