varicocele in both testicles

Hi im a 32 year old male and recently I was diagnosed in having varicocele in both testicles and when I had the ultasound the Sonographer told me what it was and not to worry. About a week later I went to my doctors to discuss my results and he has referred me to now have another ultasound but an abdominal ultasound as he said having a varicocele on both sodes is quite rare. Just wondering if anybody has got or experienced having a varicocele on both sides? Plus I do suffer from a little bit of heath anxiety which certainly is helping!

Yes, I have bilateral although one side is considered "moderate" vs "mild".

What are your symptoms? I have several issues so don't know what symptoms goes with which issue.

There are other threads here that discuss surgical options

I have varicoceles in both testicles, I get tremendous pain.

I am booked in next week to have embolisation done, but I'm not sure if I should as I've read so many horror stories regarding the use of platinum coils.

A right side varicocele is more common than a left side varicocele because the gonadal vein is much longer on the right side. But bi-lateral varicoceles are quite common. I also have them. My advice to you is that if they are not bothering you then leave them alone. Often treating them can actually make them worse or cause other problems.

I had a painful bilateral varicocele that was causing low testosterone and atrophy. It's very common to have it on both sides but it's actually more common on the left because the right testicular vein drains directly into the vena cava whereas the left drains into the renal vein. My advice would be to get it treated asap especially if its causing pain. I had an embolisation and had an improvement with my testicular volume and t levels. How are you getting on now?

Hi Tom, did you have treatment on both of them? Or just one? I had bilateral but I only had treatment on my left as I think it was much worse.

How much did you testosterone levels increase by?

Hi Gareth, I was diagnosed with bilateral varicoceles, they grade them in severity and mine was grade 3 on the left and grade 2 on the right (3 being the highest/worst). The doctor at the time also said this was nothing to worry about, but after doing a sperm test and finding out my count was slightly low I decided to have treatment. So 5 days ago I had the embolisation on only the left one - the procedure was really quick and easy. Only time will tell if it has helped my count / the pain in my balls but I will keep you updated. I recommend doing a sperm test just to be sure, and if that's fine and you don't have any pain then I wouldn't bother doing anything. A lot of men have it on both sides with no issues. Thanks
