Varicose vein laser treatment

I have been reading several posts on here about this op and most of them seem to be really negative.  I'm booked on this Thursday and am extremely worried now.  Does anyone have anything positive to say and is it worth doing especially as I'm having both legs done?   I know recovery is different for everyone but I would like to hear how long it was for you?  Thank you.

Hi, I had the laser treatment earlier this year, I found the treatment pretty straight forward, I had it done on both legs in and out of day surgery, and I would say I could have gone back to work the next day but I had already booked the week off. Unfortunately there is not a lot of difference in my legs however the surgeon said if this was the case I could have the "stripping" done, so last week I went back to my doctors who has referred me. My doctor did not recommend the laser treatment as he said he never sees much success, the surgeon/consultant said they would have to do that first and if it didn't work they would consider alternatives, honestly you have nothing to worry about with the laser treatment, and I hope you have more success than me smile

    4 alternatives that could WORK.

    Horse Chestnut  Extract

Grape Seed Extract and or Pine Bark Extract (family of OPC'S)

    Butcher's Broom

I've been taking the OPC's for 19 yrs for many health issues and no VV here..

If my first reply doesn't get out of moderation, do your research on these supps for VV.

I'm not a big surgery person, laser work could help and I've had hot and cold laser therapy on my lower back issues -- not a cure for sure.   Joy 76 US

A month ago I had the microfrequency ablation ( similar to laser) along with stripping and foam sclerotherapy. I had 90 min op which didnt hurt via local anaesthetic(I was awake) I could have walked out of the operating theatre but protocol doesnt allow it!,I could do all normal activities following the op(bandage on for 24 hours and then stockings for another week),there was no pain and although still some slight bruising there is no vein! I worried about it for months so wanted to share a positive story. Go for it! I am looking forward to being about to wear a summer dress or shorts next year rather than jeans/leggings or maxi dresses in hot weather! Good luck.

    Trudygee,

I have had endovenous ablation (4 years ago) and I have been assisting in the procedures since 1999. When done by a comprehensive vein center, with quality testing and a Surgeon with experience the procedure is very easy and results are fantastic. For some surgeons the procedure is the end of care, see (Jennifer69643) response. It is the first step, the second step is the administration of ultrasound guided sclerotherapy, micro-phlebectomy or sclerotherapy. Most insurance companies even cover the sclerotherapy because it is a second line treatment for venous insufficiency. Stripping is 4th and should be avoided.

We haven't performed micro-phlebetomy for several years due to the advances in ultrasound guided sclerotherapy. As far as herbal, creams, and supplements they can assist in the reduction of symptoms but the problem is a functional disorder of the vein valves and can not be fixed - even surgically. Find a dedicated specialist who has dedicated his or her practice to the treatments of veins (all) and you will be fine.

Just a little question smile are you based in the uk? I had my treatment done on the nhs, which I heard I was very lucky to be considered at all but due to the itching and tht I have had the veins for 14years (I'm 29) I was referred. I just wondered as I saw you mention insurance,

I only had the laser treatment referred by my doctor on the nhs, I also have the dark sensitive patches, I got referred in June 2013 so not doing to bad, before then I was told I couldn't have any treatment ( had them for 13yrs prior to that) when I went to the partner doctor of the surgery for some cream for the itching (who I had never seen before) he couldn't believe I hadn't been referred sooner! I don't regret having the laser surgery but my doctor told me I should have refused it and asked to go straight for the stripping, but the surgeon told me at the time they would have to do that first, I hope yours goes well, the worst part of the laser I would say is the pulling sensation you feel inside your legs post surgery, doesn't hurt but it's a really strange sensation! Good luck! smile
