Varicose veins on my shins

Does anybody know if you can have veins removed or filled on the shins?
My veins are hereditary and seem to be getting worse the older I get! I've previously had surgery on the inside of my thighs but now a new vein has appeared on the front of my thigh above my knee and my surgery was only two years ago, I had to go private but I felt the surgeon was only interested in the money surprise surprise.

I had to have a double take about your 'filled' wording when referring to veins. I presume you mean foamsclerotherapy ? that is, blocking off the veins rather than filling them.
If they're on the shin you might find they're from behind -- maybe better to ask for an ultrasound scan again to see which veins aren't functioning properly.
Varicose veins come back I'm afraid but 2 years free is pretty good.

Then they re-appeared and I left it a bit late but finally had them done again in 1991 at Bridlington Hospital this time it was a full strip.
About 3-4 years ago I went to the G.P. and enquired about what was happening as I was getting fluid build up at the ankle -- again just the left leg. He replied with "your veins are rubbish" and then he seemed to think I was going through the motions for 'comsmetic' purposes -- apparantly the NHS was clamping down on that side of things however mine were now painful.
I went to a consultant at Gloucester hospital and he said he was glad I persisted as I had Oedema (fluid build up) and, poor vascular conditions which was also making my skin discoloured i.e. too much blood against the skin itself..from of course the Oedema.
He said he didn't want to do anything surgical again but I was quite happy with the Foam treatment however I've had two more treatments since then as veins pack up etc..
He did mention about the RF ablation though but I couldn't get it on the NHS as my Primary Care area wasn't funding any of that treatment you might be able to do that with the NHS but, I would suggest you say you're in a lot of pain otherwise they probably wouldn't touch it.
Hope this helps but do get them looked at --- ultrasound scans were the normal treatment before anything else they need to know which veins to inject or do something else with.
