Have had Ven. For 12 years as Consultant told e they could never get me off them !, They have become counterproductive and causing anxiety and other problems so

I told my Dr I was going to get off them very very slowly. He was happy about that. I have a good friend who is Medically literate and has devised a programme ti wean me off. I am nearly 1/3rd down since February. Ive had tiredness a bit , nausea a bit , and loose stools. Nothing I cant handle !

If anyone wants to ask me questions I am very willing.

Winifred, that's fantastic, well done. I've been on ven 9.5yrs and dropped 75mg last year but had to come back upon to 225 again recently. I feel it's causing as many problems now as it helped at the beginning. Good luck and let us know how you go.

I am 78 and took Venlafaxine for almost 3 years when a life time event had sent me into a serious depression My coming off was from a daily dose of 75mg down to 37.5 mg over a month. The side effects were ok except for a constant 'zapping' in my head which I was troubled about When I sought advice of my Gp itvwascsuggested thus was a kind of Tinnitus which had come since I had been prescribed hearing aids ( I lacked the clear recognition of consonants but volume was adequate) Anyway these 'zaps' ' went away about three weeks later and have not returned. I am no longer depressed. I wish you success in your attempt to stay off the medication Pat

    Hi winifred

Firstly how wonderful you are in helping others ♥

I am 57 and had my first bout of depression two years ago. After 6 months I was still no better. Go tried different AD s but for some reason my depression was resistant. After being referred to psychiatrist he gave me mirtazipine and venlafaxine combo. Within weeks I started to feel better. I would love to know how you weaned off venlafaxine and how you are progressing.

    Look forward to your updates

    God bless ♥♥♥
