Venlafaxine

I first started taking 75mg if venlafaxine 13 Year’s ago and stopped taking it 6 months ago. Last week I started taking 75mg of venlafaxine tablets again after struggling to live without it. Has anyone else spent as long as 13 years on this drug? Have you had any health complications as a result?

    Hi John,

Took 75 mg Venlaxine for 15 years. Took about 14 months to taper off, currently have not taken Ven or any prescription drugs for 26 months.  I posted several times during the process (not sure, but I believe you can look them up by my user name).  This drug can affect your system long after you have discontinued taking it. The longer you take it, the more difficult and lengthy it seems to discontinue. I feel that taking this drug for such a long period resulted in changes to my brain chemistry that continue to affect me even though I am no longer going through withdrawal.  In particular, my memory and cognitive function have declined to a noticeable degree. I don't feel that staying on the drug would have been the answer for me, because at some point there seems to be a "poop out" affect, where the body habituates to the drug and higher doses are required to feel "normal".

Thank you for your reply I appreciate it. I went back on Ven after a 6 month break because while on the drug it worked for me and I felt better on it than I did off it.
