venlafaxine

Hi, I'm posting this generally, as the specific antidepressant forums mostly seem full of people struggling with their prescription. I would like to hear positive experiences, if there are any!
This will be my 5th anti-D in 3 years. I'm at breaking point and really need this to work.
I know nothing about venlafaxine. Anyone with a good experience of it? I've been given the slow release version.
Thanks

Hi
I've taken venlefaxine for 7 years.
Now, before I give you my experience of the anti depressant.. want I will say is that everyone reacts differently to a drug. For some it's great with little side effects and others the opposite.
So as an anti depressant I feel that it has helped me although I've ended up on the maximum dose and it took a while for me to adjust to it.
In regards to side effects..
It's never made me drowsy so I take mines in the morning. I have had some weight gain with it, but I have also not been as active with being off work.
The only one issue I have had is stopping or missing a dose has made me feel terrible. Physically and psychologically. If ever I have forgotten a dose or run out, I get electric like flashes in my head, nausea, fatigue and my mood plummets. I feel that if and when I come to stop this drug, it may be extremely difficult and from what I have read on lime this seems to be a trend with venlefaxine.
I don't want to put you off with this though.. you may find that you have zero effects if a dose is missed.. and bear in mind my dose is the maximum which makes it worse if I stop.
My advice is give it a try and see how you get on. I know of people who have found venlefaxine to be the best thing ever. I myself have found it helpful mostly.. Like I said the issue I have is discontinuing it.
Anyway I hope you get in ok.. If you have any questions then feel free to message me or reply to this.
All the best
Lisa x

Hi Lisa, many thanks for replying. I always seem to have pretty severe side effect reactions, and have suffered major withdrawls, so I'm very grateful for the heads up about missing a dose! I can be a bit forgetful at times, so I will need to make sure I remember!
I'll be taking the first one tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
