Venlafaxine 75mg and Mirtazapine 30mg

Hi I have been taking Mirt now for just over three weeks for PND however it wasn't really helping my depression but helped the anxiety and sleep problems I was having therefore I saw the consultant two days ago who prescribed me Venlafaxine 75mg to take with the Mirtazapine. This is my second morning of taking the Venlafaxine and I feel my anxiety has come back and I feel all wide eyed and jittery! Just wondering when will these side effects ease? As I have a 7 week old baby to look after thank you! And I'm wondering when I will feel the benefit of this combination?

I was put on the Ven for PND. I really sympathise your symptoms. Horrible illness. Iv only taken the Ven but can say it honestly saved my life. Takes approx 2/4 weeks for the meds get in your system. Sorry I have no experience of the other tablet you take. I take 150mg Ven slow release but hoping to decrease soon. Been on this ten years.

Hope you start feeling better soon. If I can help with the PND just ask x

Hi thanks for your reply! Did you find that your anxiety worsened the first time taking the tabs? I feel really anxious and it's horrible! As for the PND it is taking over my life I'm just not happy anymore don't feel like the same person I'm unable to bond properly with my son either just feel that I have made a big mistake even though the baby was planned and I couldn't wait to meet him! Just feel so low and miserable with my life now! I'm really hoping this combination of tabs works so I can feel myself again but it's day two of taking the Venlafaxen and I feel crap! I really really just want to be happy now and stop feeling like I have ruined my life! I was so looking forward to this next chapter in my life with a happy little family and it's far from it I am a total different person don't like socialising with anyone don't like going out the door really but I force myself! I just want to be happy and enjoy this time! Instead of hating every minute of it! (Sorry for the long reply)

I really feel for you. I completely understand everything your experiencing. You feel as if life is going on and your not part of it.

I can honestly say you will get through this. Unfortunately it takes time. It's a strange condition and most women who experience PND have had a planned pregnancy or have longed for a baby but needed fertility treatment.

The dose you are taking is pretty low. I'm wondering if you need it increasing. Also not all antidepressants suite everyone. There are loads out there so don't be frightened of telling your GP or health visitor that things aren't improving. I started on lithium which is very strong then switched to the Ven once I began to improve.

I do hope you have a good partner to support you. This really is a great help.

You will have somewhat different feelings towards your baby. I remember thinking my daughter caused me to feel this way. However once you begin to feel better your feelings and thoughts will change. I promise. Remember this doesn't last forever. You've got an illness but it will get better with health professionals and family support.

I am now a registered nurse. If someone had told me that when I had PND , I'd have laughed in their face. Hang on in there. Don't punish yourself. You really are a great mum and person.

My best advice, be honest with everyone. There's nothing to feel ashamed of or embarrassed about. Your body has experienced a massive change in motherhood. Hormones play a massive part but you will get there. πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

Hi thanks for your reply! Sorry to hear your feeling crap! My anxiety seems to be terrible again since they added the Venlafaxine into it! Will this calm down do you think? I'm hoping it's just a side effect xxx
