Venlafaxine for intrusive obsessive thoughts

Hi all. I've been on venlafaxine for about 8 month now and at first it helped greatly with my intrusive obsessive thoughts but recently I've been struggling again with the thoughts. I was just wondering if this has happend to anyone else? Is it just a blip? I have 8 days ago increased my venlafaxine and already it's helped my mood but nothing for the thoughts, can I expect in a few weeks my thoughts to be better? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi. I've been where you are and still have blips....I recently increased from 75 to 150 and that intrusive thought side effect started again. With every dose increase, you can expect to have those side effects until you build up the new dosage level. My therapist have me good advice.... Whenever an intrusive thought comes into your head, tell yourself you don't have to think about it and push it out....

Whatever you have to tell yourself to make that work, practice it.

I try to keep busy throughout the day to avoid those, and in the evening when I show down, if they start popping up, I tell myself the thoughts are not important, they are just the medicine doing it's thing.

In a few weeks, I'm betting you'll be okay. Be patient with the medication and yourself!!!

Hi Tammy thanks for your reply. I started getting the thoughts before the increase in Meds so I don't think they are the cause although I am hoping they are the cure. I often tell myself they are just thoughts but I still find them hard. I know I'd never follow through with what I think but I wish the thoughts woUldale justhe go. They came back when my depression dipped but Meds have helped depression but not thoughts.
