Venlafaxine - withdrawing

I've taken Venlafaxine 37.5mg daily for 14 months and I now feel very ready to come off them. I visited my GP today to seek advice on how to do this as when (even on this low dose) I have missed a tablet I have experienced dizziness, nausea and headaches. I was a little taken aback when he informed me that the symptons I experience aren't due to anything physical but anxiety lead i.e. I'm not ready to come off the medication. This makes no sense to me at all! Does anyone agree with this?
