Venlaflaxine and high cholesterol

Posted , 3 users are following.

I am on 150mg xr of ven and 22.5mg of mirtazapine and 10mg if diazepam. Am reducing the mirtazapine atm.

My cholesterol is 7.9 !!! I am genetically predesposed to high cholesterol. I eat very well but am overweight due to the meds and whilst tapering the mirt do not feel up to exercise.

I really don t want to take statins as don t trust meds or doctors anymore.

Anyone else have this with ven ? I don t plan on coming off ven till after the mirtazapine and diazepam which i plan to do very slowely.

I was on ven for 12 years before trying to come off of it, a disaster.  During my time on, my cholesterol was always slightly high, but my ratio was always so good that the docs weren't worried about it.  After the withdrawal, I was put on mirtazapine, and then ven when the mirt didn't work  I had my cholesterol checked a year or so later and it had gone way up!  I think it was the mirtazapine, and I have read that elevated cholesterol and diabetes are potential side effects of mirtazapine.

I have gotten all the way down to 2 mg mirtazapine, tapering off of both meds.  I have lost 10 lb.  I haven't had my cholesterol checked yet since my doctor is not into using statins and does bloods every other year.  My ratio was still good even though my total cholesterol had elevated significantly.  I don't blame you for wanting to avoid more drugs.  I've heard that once on statins you can't really come off without risk. That is why I am wanting to see if things come back to my normal off the mirtazapine.
