I suffered shakes and feeling edgy, I was changed to the slow release form and the symptoms went away. I never felt the tiredness but that was maybe due to the fact I'd been on previous meds (prothiaden) that zombified me, so anything else was a relief.

Im day 7 of 37.5mg of XR. I was on Celexa 20mg for past 7 wks before. Horrible. Obtrusive thoughts and no motivation. Crying. All on Celexa. Stop it on this past Thurs an started Effexor. Some dizziness prob fr stopping the Celexa an a little nausea an some constipation (sorry!). But other than occasional anxiety pops up not bad (like Prozac! Horrible to!). Its been ok. Im not layin in bed just wanting to disappear! Getting out more. Eating more to! Got to watch that. Gonna start exercises again. I had stopped because of low mood (dx with GAD an depression) this is med #8. I really hope its for me! So far ok. Not totally out of dark pit but crawling out! I also have Klonapine 0.5mg half pill as needed for anxiety. Goodluck

Hi. The adjustment, the worst part of it anyway, should not take more than a week or two. Much depends on how ill you have been and for how long before starting the medication as well as your actual condition - what you are taking them for. For you to actually start feeling better with regards to the condition you are taking them for, may take 4-6 weeks for gradual improvement to be noticed.

Venlafaxine should not really be taken at night. Your first dose should be morning and second dose usually no later than 3-4 PM. Venlafaxine can mess with sleep cycle notably, which can then mess with your symptoms. Was this prescribed by a GP or a psychiatrist? Discuss it with your doctor if your symptoms worsen over the coming week.

Hang in there. The start up is rarely pretty. Goes for most drugs. x

Why are you taking a split dose?? It is usually a once a day capsule.

I'd give it a week and go back to doctor if side effects are still plaguing you. Most will disappear. Hang tough as it can take up to six weeks for full effect of the medication to kick in.

There are many antidepressants and it may take them a while to figure out what suits you. Keep going back to doctor, if you're not happy or get another opinion. Preferably not the same clinic!
