venlafaxine worked very well getting me out of depression. issue with it, is that i had to keep on increasing dose, as after a couple of months, anxiety would increase, and i would go back into depression. got up to 337.5mg. had started on 37.5mg and over a 10 month period increased by 37.5mg, until 337.5mg daily dose. realised there was a pattern. knew that adding mirtazapine to it, was very successful, so had 15mg of mirt added, and reduced ven to 266.5mg. that quickly did the trick. obtrusive thoughts stopped, and suddenly found i was thinking and feeling normal. i wanted an understanding of why this happened so researched it in depth. looks like ven works as a ssri up to 150mg. above 150mg starts working as a ssri and snri. However, the seratonin effect doesnt increase as you increase dose above 150mg, stays same as 150mg, but the noradrenalin effect increases with each dose. without seratonin increasing above 150, the increasing noradrenalin effect brings you out of depression, but then doesnt reduce anxiety, hence the increasing cycle repeating. adding mirt, increased seratonin effect, plus the sedation at night benefit, is why i think this combo works well. if ven partially worked for you, consider adding mirt first, if no better, than consider having an anti pyshcotic added, to improve ven.
