Venous ulcer returned.

Well, it came back again. I had finished wound care and within a couple weeks , the ulcer reopened. Week after week, wound care, wrapping cleaning compression. Only to have it open again.I tried to manage it myself. But it became infected, I got cellulitis and a fungal infection. I was admitted in hospital for 6 days. IV with antibiotics. So, I could not smoke a cigarette for 6 days. Hmmmm. Well. Let me see if not smoking helps. I've been told how bad smoking is on the veins. Let's see if this helps. I will keep you updated. Has anyone else quit smoking and seen improvement in their health? Please respond. Terry

I'm so sorry to hear that your ulcer has come back, that must have been very disappointing after it healed. I don't know if stopping smoking helps or not, I know the nurses want me to lose weight so my ulcers will heal, I am very obese. I've had an ulcer on both legs for 3 years now and I have compression bandaging.
Anyway Terrycafe, good luck if you do try and give up smoking, it's not easy I'm sure. Best wishes to you.

HI Alison , thanks for your response. I just got back on the forum. I'm glad I did, because there is much support here. Most people don't understand unless they have gone through it. Let me know how you are doing. Thanks. Terry

Hi coral. I just saw your message to me. Well. Everything I have learned so far, smoking is a huge problem in wound healing. Some doctors will not even do surgery until the patient quits for a few months. It's been tough, but I have quit. I want my health. So tired of not feeling good. Oh. Plus I'm trying to lose the weight. It all will help. I see very few thin people with vein problems like mine. I'm about 50 pounds overweight. Let me know what's going on. Terry
