Ventral and Umbilical Hernias - 3rd surgery upcoming

Posted , 2 users are following.

I had robotic surgery for a large umbilical hernia and ventral hernia in 2016. Both failed. Had surgery in September 2017 but, this surgeon didn't "believe" my umbilical was back. He was arrogant. Now my umbilical hernia is almost 12cm and gearing up for 3rd surgery. I get painful bloating and abdomen pain and this time my acid reflux is in full gear 24/7 even on 3 meds. I'm in constant pain and haven't held down work since end of 2016. Anyone experience similar pain or have any advice before surgery?

You may also have adhesions or scar tissue which may have formed after your past surgeries.  this happened to me after and appendix surgery and 2 incesional hernia surgeries.  Adhesions cannot be seen by and diagnosit technique.  Just a thought.  If you go for more surgery the doc will find them at that time and can remove them.

Are adhesions different than scar tissue? They won't remove scar tissue for me. Thank you for responding. I would like to have a list of questions/requests for the next surgeon that I meet at the end of the month.

Adhesions are the same as scar tissue. They can be difficult to remove. Some inexperienced doctors in adhesions removal may not want to tackle them. They can easily cause that kind of pain. The other issue why he doesn’t want to remove them is because they may just return quickly.  A specialist will remove them is they are causing an intestinal obstruction. You will know when you get an obstruction as it is the most pain you have ever felt in waves usually above your navel. Kind of like labor pains but worse. There is 2 private Facebook forums on adhesions. You might benefit from them. Take care.

Had my 3rd Hernia surgery yesterday. What was initially diagnosed as an umbilical hernia turned out to be 2 ventral on both sides above my belly button. Both were softball sized and this surgeon used a different mesh and had to connect it to my upper mesh. 5 new scars to add to the other four small ones and a 5 inch open surgery straight down the middle. My entire abdomen is now covered in mesh. I hope and pray this works! In pain today but, remain hopeful that I will be able to get back to working again!
