I have some varicose veins in the some leg that  I need THR. My surgeon, has referred me to a vascular surgeon to have it checked out.

Has anyone else had to do this ?

I have never had any issues with this leg except a messed up hip !  I just figure the surgeon is just being cautious.

Have great day !!!

I can only speculate, but I would think that he is checking to see if there is an increased risk of DVT post surgert

Thanks for getting back to me.

I guess, if the Vascular surgeon doesnt like what he/she sees, they will do whatever ?

Good Afternoon from soggy North Carolina, USA

I go this coming Wed.  I am fairly confident the Dr. will clear me for  surgery.  Then a week from this Monday, I go for a physical to be cleared for surgery.

I want to get the surgery over with !

I hope he clears you so you can movee forward with the THR. Waiting is hard when you are in pain and want to get back to a more active and full life.

      Good luck.

Although DVT stands for deep venous thrombosis and the veins that varicose are superficial ones, varicose veins are a known risk factor for DVT. As you said your surgeon is being cautious and the vascular surgeon's advice might affect what anticoagulation they use with you postoperatively.

    Hope all goes well

    Hi

i agree with the others that they are taking precautions against DVT

i had a THR in February, I had to wear compression stockings, and also after surgery, those boots with the pumps on them.

Nine weeks later I had my veins stripped, this was an easy process and everything went well

As soon I was told I had to see the Vascular Dr., I got some compression type socks/tights while I play sports.  My hip is bone on bone, but I am still able to play tennis/raquetball, not as well, as i would like !

      Thanks for the info !!!

Holy cr** Rich - you are one tough guy. I could barely walk let alone play sports w bone on bone!

I even passed out once leaning over to get a parking permit fom the machine.

I actually feel better when I am playing sports than just walking or going up and down steps. I was playing hockey up until this past December, but I sprained my ankle badly.

My goal is to go back to playing hockey in July 2017 !!!!

You must have been hurting badly to pass out while getting the parking permit !!

Well,  I went to the vascular surgeon today.  He said, I would need a minor procedure and it can be done in 3 months or later (insurance makes you wait).  I could do nothing but, in 20 yrs or so, I could have some problems.

Its extreemely unlikely that this minor issue would have any effect on my 7/25, THR.

    Have a great day !!!

I was pretty confident it was no big deal.  But ya never know.

I expect my surgery/recovery will go smoothly as my first one did !!

I have always been in very good shape and do not mind the rehab !  What else am I going to do besides rehab, I am not allowed to work for 7 weeks !
