It may be an episode of vestibular neuritis that you are still recovering from.  Was one of the tests that you did a brain MRI?

Thank you for your reply, by the way are you Greek as I am half Greek on my late mothers side, the doctor that came out to be on the safe side told me to go to the emergency department to have tests in case I had a mini stroke and I had all those wires and points attached to my body plus loads of blood tests and they were all clear, is it serious this vestibular neuritis and would it have been pinpointed on those tests  as this is scaring me as I suffer from stress andmy nerves are not great plus ibs and firomyalgia, I have pain with this too and are taking occasional painkillers with the tablets for this, thank you so much for your reply by the way and wish you the best for the new year, Stella

The tests that you describe would not tell the difference between a mini-stroke and VN.  Imaging of the brain was at least needed, at least a CAT scan if MRI was not available. There is a way to tell clinically.  Ask someone to cover one of your eyes with a piece of paper, and then to uncover it while looking at it.  I would like to know if he or she sees your move move down from an up position, or something similar.

      P.S. I am Cypriot.

Hello, did this and there was no movement with the eyes, I do have a left lazy eye which does not help but the position did not alter, thanks Stella, this condition that you said is the clinical name for labrinthitis isn't it, will it just clear up by itself with the tablets I am taking, thanks, Stella

Vestibular neuritis and labyrinthitis are two different things.  The former is for the nerve, the latter for the inner ear.

The eye movement test is useful when this sign is present, but not when it is absent.  However, you say that you could not walk to the bathroom.  To be objective, you need to have brain imaging performed.  This should have been done when you went to the ER. You need to find a way to do this.

Thanks for your reply but my sister had a bout of bad vertigo before and she could not walk, if you are out of balance and things are moving and you are unsteady its not necessary to do with the brain is it, the inner ear can throw you out of balance so you can't walk properly, I was able to walk but I was holding rails at first, I was also shovering which the and my legs were shaking, which the doctor thought it was viral induced as well as you shiver when you have a virus, which made my legs go as well, its allot better but when I turn around in bed its still there a bit and also when I wash my hair, i feel out of balance and a bit unsteady, I have been out today in the town with my husband shopping and also yesterday, so I don't think I need a brain scan, do you think so. Thanks Stella

It's used to rule out tumors, narrowed or blocked blood vessels, stroke, etc.

Yes. Was told bppv years ago but has since gotten worse. I learned a long time ago how to wash my hair with my eyes open. Lol. The dizziness/vertigo kicking in while rolling over in bed is a classic bppv symptom. Had it happen to many times. Can't rule out other things. May have a crystal floating around.
