Vertigo and bad days

Hello,
I have very recently been diagnosed with vertigo by my gp.
He has given me 8mg of betahistimine 3 times a day.
I went out last night and drank, not excessively but tonight I feel very off balance and had to come to bed as I feel awful.
My left ear feels very full and I am sitting up in bed as I can't lie down.
Anyone else had similar symptoms?

Yes! My vertigo started after a party and drinking. I thought it was a hangover but it didn't go away for a long time. And yes, ear fullness was one of my symptoms! I was diagnosed with vestibular neuritis.

Did your GP say which vertigo symptoms you are suffering from? vertigo Is really a descriptive word for balance probs, dizziness etc etc. Unless you have had the correct testing, which GP's are not proficient in i'm surprised he has arbitrarily diagnosed ' you. Betahistaine doesnt go well with alcohol, even a small amount. There are good few different causes for diziziness so imwould ask your GP for a referral to a Neuro Otologist who is trained specifically in the Vestibular system,

Thanks for the reply.
Gp said it was vertigo symptoms and gave me the tablets.
I had been feeling better but not so much after drinking alcohol but I did ask if I could drink on them and was told I could but that was from the pharmacist. I am not going to touch another drop of alcohol whilst on these.

am surprised a pharmacist told you its ok to drink with Betahistine, which is basically like an Antihistamine, which advises against drinking whilst taking.

Yes. I have to move my head to stop the sensation.
I am going through a lot of stress in my life and I know this won't be helping and th me booze isn't helping either.

Lay off the booze until it's all cleared up.

Noted and I defo will not touch a drop. The feeling I've had today isn't worth putting myself through it again for a drink I tell you

Alcohol dehydrates and causes dizziness. Dizziness and vertigo are not the same. It's hard for a doc to diagnose what causes the vertigo without tests. Vertigo is considered a symptom not a disease. There's a series of tests they can run to narrow down what's causing it. ( VNG, MRI, audiogram, etc) The tests need to be ordered by a ENT or neurotologist. I suggest a neurotologist as a ENT didn't do a thing for me but order the tests then tell me to see a neurotologist.

You should avoid alcohol when your ears feel like that. I know that's the case for Meniere's at least because it can send you into an attack.

Drinking was not a good idea.

I wanted to give an update on my vertigo.
After a week of awful vertigo, my symptoms (everything crossed) appear to be subsiding.
Why? You may ask.
I have done a lot of research and tried various things.
Over the past four days I have done the following -
I ate a lot of good food, broccoli, spinach, asparagus, liver and onions.
Drank lots of water
Brought Manuka honey and cinnamon, i mix a teaspoon of both together everyday and take each morning.
Inhaled olbus oil on tissues. Left a tissue over night so I am constantly inhaling.
Have a banana for breakfast instead of toast.
I did have a funny turn at work yday where I felt like I was going to pass out and my ears felt strange all day but today I feel ok.
Not sure if any of the above will help anyone else but wanted to share as I know it's an awful thing to live with.
Have a read in the benefits of honey and cinnamon, the benefits are amazing. I paid £12 for the honey from Tesco, rowse manuka honey 10+.
I will update you again shortly
