Hi,  I went to the doctors yesterday to fine out that I have a inner ear virus... not pleasant at all,   It’s called Labyrinthitis .  Has any one had this and how long does it last.  I feel I’m going out of my mind, makes you feel very unwell .

I haven't personally but my dad and cousin both have had it. Not sure how long recovery is because I think it is different for everyone. Rest fluids and healthy diet is about all you can do though I am sure they can prescribe something to help settle the dizziness and nausea a bit.

    Greetings from Ecuador

Hi Clare, I had a strong labyrinthitis when I was in high school, it was so strong that I did not have balance. I was in bed with vertigo about fifteen days.  The time depends is different in each person, I recommend you... call a neurologist and an otolaryngologist to give some medication.

I send you a lot of positive energy.

I have been diagnosed with Meniere's disease because the dizziness and inflammation never ever went away. It comes with very bad symptoms. I was once a very active person 47 years old for kids for grandchildren and now I'm at the point where I don't even barely leave my house because of the symptoms. I was prescribed best tubular Rehabilitation which I can't find someone qualified in my area to do I was prescribed a diuretic a low sodium diet and antivert none of which work. I wish you the best. Don't be afraid to follow through on any symptoms that you experience if you do not feel comfortable about a diagnosis. When I was first diagnosed they said this is what you have and sent me on my way. Months were passing and I was getting worse so I took it upon myself to see an ENT who then in turn sent me for MRIs, blood work and referred me to a neurologist. I wish you the best of luck!

Hi Clare, I really do know how you feel and wish you a speedy recovery, but not to frighten you or anything I came down with the Norovirus in 2013 and then repeatedly kept on getting colds that year. In December I felt awful and my ears started to itch and started to get left inner ear fullness and I felt I was walking and being pulled to the left. Cut a long story short went to the doctors and was diagnosed with Labyrinthitis . Okay I thought , this will ease up some time soon so I started to not worry although I felt so terrible couldn't go shopping etc, I started to feel very disconnected from my family and friends and without realising too much I started to get quite anxious and low in mood because this horrible thing can make you feel like you no longer have a life. Unfortunately fast forward to 2018 ........ I still am unbalanced which makes me so sad because I feel I have lost 5 years of my life , My granddaughter was born in 2014 I was only 36 and couldn't even hold her some time in fear that I would drop her because of the lightheadedness and balance issues. I have all kinds of tests done echocardiogram because my heart sometimes races, colonoscopy, audiology, bloodwork, MRI on the brain, you name it I have had the tests and everything comes back normal. I still pray for a day for this thing to just disappear and leave me alone, I don't know about anyone else but my balance and symptoms are 20x worse around my period, but I have the rocking swaying feeling daily just sometimes not so severe, its either that or I have began to get used to it and this can cause an array of other things that happen to your body. I really hope you are one of the lucky one and get over this very soon. Blessings to you and keep as positive as you can.
