Vertigo? Please respond

Today (Jan. 30) I got out of bed around 1:00 because my 3yr old son slept in so I did too. When I got out of bed and took my first few steps I felt heart racing and intense spinning / dizzy feelings. I did not feel faint or like I was going to pass out just the feeling I need to sit down. It lasted from 1:00 to 4:30 where it was so intense I could only get up for a few minutes and right back down I had to lay or sit to stop the dizziness , I also had poor balance nothing to me falling over but just very unsteady. I have never felt like that before ... Anyone know anything that could help. ( It did ease up around 7 to where I could get up and do things (bend over, out stuff on my shelves and pick up) with it not being intense but still being a little dizzy spinny feeling. Also when it was intense it was even when I was laying down and I moved my head to the other side to fast I immediately get spinning feeling again . Sorry for it being lengthing just want to add as much detail as possible.
I'm a 22 year old female as well I don't smoke, drink alcohol or do any drugs .

Hello,
?I would think it's BPPV. I would look to see a neuro-otologist. They specialize in inner ear and might be able to help you.
?Take care,
Nicole

Yes I did a day worth of result lol since I really couldn't get off my couch yesterday. I am almost certain it is BVVP or even like Rosemary said a simple virus . I see my Doctor in few days , they couldn't get me in any sooner unfortunately. Thanks so much for your replies.

It could well just be a virus would be worth getting to doctors & getting diagnosis.i had a virus recently & I felt dizzy etc but I also felt the same when I had labrynthitis last year so you should seek professional help as it could be a multitude of things.you could still take motion sickness tablets in the mean time.the doctors can prescribe them as well.i hope you fell better soon

How long did it take to recover from labs? I have heard from people who are still having problems with dizziness and feeling derealization even a couple years after getting labs. Did you have any vestibular testing done?

Thanks so much, when I felt the dizziness I immediately called my doctor and they are seeing me Friday the 2nd. I just figured I'd post on here to get some opinions before I go in a few days . Thanks so much for your reply again.

Did your doctor only look into your ears with the otoscope? I had testing done that included a caloric test where they put water into your ears to check for nystagmus and then a rotary chair test and other tests to check the inner ear. Did your doctor say what he could see when he checked your ears? I'm on a couple pages on Facebook for people who have vestibular disorders and many people have lingering symptoms from labs and vestibular neuritis. I have had problems since 2012 and some people have had issues for longer than that.
?It's good you are better. This dizziness and derealization is horrid. I would never wish it upon anyone.

What were your symptoms. Dizzy and unbalanced, did you have what's called derealization, where it feels like you're not really here and it feels like you're in a dream?

Sorry to butt in but I have expierenced derealation when I had my first panic / anxiety attack about a year ago. Oh it was horrible I'm so thankful my anxiety has submitted alot. I use to wake up and my heart racing immedatly and would last all day. Along with so many horrible symptoms. I know you ladies are talking about the problems with the inner ear. But trust me I know the feeling of derealaztion sorry if I spent it wrong.

Actually, feelings of unreality, anxiety and even panic are also symptoms of inner ear conditions!
When I finally got to see the physiotherapist who fixed my BPPV after two months of suffering from it, I asked him about the severe brain fog I'd been experiencing. I was having a bit of difficulty in finding the right words to explain my symptoms to him, and that had been an increasing problem over the previous few weeks. To be honest, I'd even thought this aspect might be down to the early signs of dementia, given my age!
He reassured me that this was perfectly normal with inner ear conditions. He said that the wrong information being sent to the brain from the faulty inner ear caused very real confusion, resulting in inability to think straight, and sometimes a fight-or-flight anxiety state.
He was clearly right, as the brain fog, vague panicky feeling and generally muddled thinking cleared within a few days of getting the BPPV fixed.

Hmm I didn't know it could be because of a ear condition. I mean it has been over a year since my panic attacks and I've managed my anxiety symptoms so much that I rarely feel it anymore. My mother had anxiety and panic attacks everyday and so bad sh would be in the er almost every other day. I learned to manage and see possitive through it. Like you said they could be connected in my case. I just rather prefer no medicine unless I absolutely feel I need it or my doctor feels I need it. I don't even like to take Advil for a headache. I don't like pills not that I can't take them just that I don't like to . I don't drink alcohol either or touch ciggerates or other drugs. Maybe that's why I get so scared when this happens because if I do nothing to cause it I automatically think ITS GOT TO BE SOMETHING SERIIUSOY WRONG lol

Hi Lilly,
?I still have that derealization, feeling of unreality.
?Unfortunately, the doctor has said that my condition cannot be fixed. It's vestibular rehabilitation exercises that I have to do everyday is the only way to make it any better. Apparently the sinus infection I had affected my vestibular nerve and damaged it and they said that cannot fully heal.
?Did your physiotherapist say if the feeling of unreality is only from the anxiety/fight-flight panic state and how that can be calmed to make you feel more normal?
?Please any information on how to stop or even lessen that horrid unreality feeling is greatly appreciated! It's keeping me from being able to lead a normal life.
?Thank you,
Nicole

So sorry to hear about your problems Nicole. I know that vestibular neuritis is indeed a chronic condition. There are a few people on here who have similar problems and who do the exercises, so I hope they might be able to help you.
In my case there was nothing I had to do to correct my mental state, since I was only suffering from BPPV, which quickly got fixed once I found the right specialist. Once the vertigo goes away, everything returns to normal in a short time.
I realise things are quite different for you, since there's no easy fix for your vertigo. I just hope one of the others will be able to help. Gillian - are you still around?

Thank you Lily, I have another round of physical therapy that I need to schedule but it's such a pain to have to find rides there, plus, I have a little girl. All this started when my daughter was only 10 months old.
?What should I look under, vestibular neuritis in the search to find others with this illness?
Thank you.
Nicole

I was rather hoping some of the VN sufferers from other threads in this forum might chip in. There's also a specific vestibular neuritis forum on the Patient site, distinct from this one. Go to the Patient page by clicking on your name (in this thread), select Discussion Forums then Groups A-Z. Select V and you'll find two groups: Vertigo & Dizziness and Vestibular Neuritis. There's also one for Labyrinthitis which is not unrelated. You can scroll through back discussions in these, and maybe contact other posters.
The other go-to site for anyone with a vestibular disorder is VeDA, or the Vestibular Disorders Association. You can google this, as I'm not sure whether I'd be allowed to post a link to it here.
I hope you find the help you're looking for. Don't despair, people do work out ways of living with disorders like yours.
