Vertigo sucks

Hey so I have read through all the comments and posts and the vertigo that I have is a little different. I had really bad vertigo about a month ago. I couldn't drive or walk without someone helping me. I work full-time at an orthepedic office and my husband and I need the money so I can't afford not to be here but it is so hard to work. I can't get up to help my patients and I am getting dizzy when I look around my office.

When I got the vertigo it started on a Wednesday and I thought I was just tired and needed more sleep but it kept getting worse throughout the week and then I woke up exactly a week later and it was gone. Poof! Just as quickly as it came it was gone and my GP gave me a decongestant and some nasal spray and said I had fluid in my ears that I needed to dry up.

Here I am a couple months later and I have the same thing going on. I can't drive, can't sleep and I have a lot of pressure in my head and ears. My vertigo seems to be connected to eye movement, so every so often when I move my eyes I get the "shaking" feeling and I feel like I'm gonna fall over or pass out. The week prior to my vertigo I had a headache every single day and I woke up a couple mornings with a sore throat. I love to be active and during the week I had this before I couldn't do anything but sit there and stare at the same spot (which seemed to help) but as soon as I got up to go to the bathroom I was back in shaky world. When I get the shaking feeling I get this weird sound in my ears and it feels like my eyes are going crazy.

I talked to my GP and she said to just take a nasal spray for the rest of my life and hope that the congention from my nose doesn't spread to my inner ear anymore. I have an appointment next week with a vertigo specialist though because my vertigo seems to be more random than a sure thing. Which is both good and bad because I get hope that I'm better and I'm never going to have to deal with this and then here it is again, making my life a living hell.

I am on a blood pressure medication and I take thyroid medication so I don't think that is why I'm getting it and I have alwasy had seasonal allergies but just now I seem to be suffering more for them.

I am only 23 and I suffer from anxiety pretty bad, I have panic attacks often but have never had anything like this. It bothers me that I have this going on because my husband and I would like to start our family soon and I can't even imagine being pregnant and not being able to function because of this. Plus who knows what this is doing to hormones! I'm so glad I found this site though because as much as this is the worst thing I have ever experienced, it is nice to have someone to talk about it with that actually understands. Has anyone had a similar experience where it hasn't been consistant?

Hi Tiffany, Ive got much the same including the eyeball thing.  Had this two and a half years and been diagnosed with silent migraine,  I dont have vertigo as in room spinning, but am dizzy most of the time.  If I sit or lie totally still Im fine, but as soon as I move my head, Im dizzy.  Head feels pressure, ears feel full, eyeballs feel like theyre being pulled out in bright lights.  Noises bother me.  I have managed to stay at work the whole time except when the PC started bothering me.  I had to change jobs which helped.  I was then sat in natural light not warehouse lights.  It was painful to nod but Im ok with that now.  Ive had two panic attacks, but now I more understand it Im OK.  Its so scarey, but the more anxious you get, the worse it gets.  I also have perennial rhinitis and allergies so I think its all connected.  Try not to stress, it will just get worse.  My GP sent me for an MRI scan just to rule stuff out.  Seen endless ENTs, all useless and a neuro surgeon.  Now got a migraine neurologist and a normal neurologist.  I sometimes wonder if they are right about the diagnosis.  Had loads of epilepsy and beta blockers but couldnt tolerate any.  Having botox on NHS on May 6.  Ive already paid two years ago for botox privately and it did help but still was dizzy.  I suppose Ive come to the conclusion Ive got this for life but then Im a lot older than you so it was a bit easier to take but Ive had to give up dancing and ski ing.  Just watch telly these days.

    Hi Tiffany,

Have you contacted an audioligist who is experienced with vestibular neuronitis and labyrinthitis?

I haven't yet. This is only the second time that this has happened and so I wasn't sure what I should do next.

I haven't had the pattern of vertigo that you had. Mine was constant for two or three months, then when saw an otalaryngogist (head and neck doc) he said it was BPPV - Benign Positional Paroxism (or something) Vertigo. He sent me for vestibular therapy and it helped enormously. Apparently, when you have this, your eyes kind of curl to one side, and since the ears and eyes are related, exercises for balance are given that try to "straighten" out your eyes. I had 5 treatments--many of which made me dizzy but was told that is normal. I have to do 6 exercises at home for 3 months; almost finished with first month. I totally forget about the vertigo, but once in a while, if I get off the table or bed too fast, I get dizzy. I sit down, have some water, and I'm fine. I think I'm 99% done with this, but I've had it twice before and can have a relapse. Not thinking about that now. Just doing my exercises and hope it will be done after the 3 months. Hope this helps.

Hi tiffany-----we have alot in common as far as the symptoms go.  I am way older than you ---but dizziness is a equal opportunity pain in the butt.  I too have a day here and there where I feel normal.  It has been 9 mos now.  I also found out my thyroid reading are out of whack.  My D levels as well.

I have opted to go back to vestibular therapy again....The therapist wanted me to stay longer back in Feb but I thought I was better.  Didn't last.  Have been to 5 different doctors.  People on this site mentioned a doctor called Otogolgist (sp?). In my area they are in the bigger cities.  Glad I don't have to go to work but back in the day when I did work I experienced the #dizzies".  Good luck.
