Very bad chest infection & Results of Serum test

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi all

I'm still suffering with this problem in my lungs It's mutated into a chest infection now because just as before I'm coughing up more green phlegm - & talking with what people describe as a 'dark brown: voice

The only thing that has cheered me up is my Serum test (assuming that is blood test is normal)

I've got to wait 2weeks for the results of my breathing test because it goes through the hospital doctors then in time to mine

It's very dark for me at the moment. I'm convinced it's lung cancer or farmers lungs disease. Pleurisy or pneumonia came to mind so it might be that

MY dad keeps nagging me to get out in the fresh air & open my bedroom windows to get air circulating.I could get pneumonia

I'm going to try & get an early morning docs appointment Wednesday morning or rather CAN'T GET AN APPOINTMENT WEDNESDAY MORNING.. - it's difficult to get one either you can't get through because it's continually engaged then when you do they say its booked up

Like everyone I dread to think what Brexit has on the effect of everyone's medication. - speaking as me personally _mine

    Hi Sarajo,

I know exactly what you mean about Drs at the moment, it's getting to be a really dire situation!

Try hard not to look too much on the negative side of it all, says she having done just the same when I had my chest infection.

I needed 2 lots of antibiotics and a week of steroids as mine wouldn't shift.

I had an x-ray and was scared silly about that result, the same with a sputum test - both thankfully came back clear!!

Remain as hopeful as you can, but prepared just in case.

To be honest, I would side with your Dad, so long as it's not foggy or really cold then at least keep a small bedroom window open at night and definitely during the day!

I know nothing about New Forest Lung, even though that's where hubby and I originate from. 😁 I know it's not got any bearing on it, just joking.

Come and chat whenever you need to, I'm here for you as a listening ear. Keep in good spirits and go for some brisk walks, it'll release the endorphins in your brain and help you feel better. It'll also help loosen all the phlegm which needs to be done. Always be sure to spit out whatever you cough up, that's vital I promise you!

All my very best wishes Sarajo,

    Sue.

Well done Sarajo. Don't forget the brisk walks and circulation of all rooms. No, you won't catch pneumonia. It's a lovely autumn day, perfect for a good walk and some deep breathing. Focus on all the wonders of the natural world and enjoy your time out.

      Best wishes, Sue

      hello sue

Im absolutely TERRIBLE!!!!!! today. Ive got a heck of a cold -I cant stop blowing my nose theres enough to blow down but when I do Im still stuffed up

Ive drunk plenty of all in one drinks every few hours (which includes relief for chesty coughs & bought some chesty cough Covonia

Ive not had a cold for a long time -its bad enough Ive got this issue with my lungs & to have a cold on the top of it is terrible. I cancelled my riding lesson today -I just didnt feel well enough to go

Im sneezing coughing can t breathe & used 2 full toilet rolls to blow my nose with

Ive got a doctors appointment thursday 17th at 5.30 & take my hospital letter with me that says there is some sort of fluid in my lungs -just in case the doctor listens to my chest & says its clear when it clearly states in the letter that it isnt

Im going to see whether he will give me antibiotics

Its a very poor show that when you want to make an appointment for a period of time after the day you phone & they say youve got to ring up on the day -I think its bizzare because not only is there 1 phone no -its impossible to get through & when you do & you're waiting for them to answer theres never any guarantees of getting an appointment

One time when I phoned at 8am to try & get an appointment they say theyre all booked up.

How can they be booked up when in a morning the receptionists are given a new set of doctors surgeries' presumably at that time -they cant be booked up ithin minutes -its all very bizzare

      Hello Sarajo,

I'm so sorry to hear you've got such a terrible cold. There are several videos on how to get rid of blocked noses on YouTube, worth a try!

Sadly, the "phone us early" at the Drs is mostly just in case someone cancelled the day before, but always worth trying.

I hope you get some luck with your Dr!

You're bound to use a fair amount of toilet rolls if you've got a cold, hubby and I always use Kleenex Balsam tissues to avoid soreness, they're far better!

Again, drink of tap water - nothing else! You need at least 8 full glasses each day.

I look forward to hearing from you later.

      All the best, Sue

      Hello Sue

I went to see my doctor today & discussed it with him -my mum came in with m to make him aware of me being under the hospital for my lungs & awaiting the results to see what is causing these crackles in my lungs

he listened to my chest & said it was clear -I had a feeling he was going to tell me that my chest was clear so I produced my letter from the hospital to see whether he was aware of this letter & highlighted that when I was examined there the doctor said I had some crackles in my lungs when she listened to it

He said the crackling I could here was in my throat & everytime i cough it hurts my chest, ribs & nearly making myself sick. I wasnt given antibiotics so Ive gone back on the round of ever few hours its a lemsip for chesty coughs & hours later its 2 teaspoons of covonia until this cold goes & I find out what is wrong with my lungs what happens going forward.

Im very distressed about this issue with my lungs because theyve always been perfect.

      Hello Sarajo,

I'm not at all surprised at the crackling being in your throat, which also accounts for the change in your voice.

What does puzzle me is the fact that presumably it was your Dr who referred you to the hospital in the first place! In which case, was it due to him thinking there was a problem with your lungs then or...? What did he say when he read the letter from the hospital? Did he find it strange or agree with them? Very strange if so?! It seems as though he needs to liaise with the hospital.

A very wise move of yours with the Lemsip and Covonia, which will do your cold good, your throat too!

I look forward to hearing how you progress. In the meantime, very best wishes, Sue.

      Hello Sue

      Thanks again for your reply

I was referred by another doctor (at the surgery) for a hospital appointment to go & dicuss having this breathing test + after having received the letter to see the initial letter to go & see the the respitory clinician -thats when I discovered I had the crackling in my lungs which lead of course to me having the breathing test which Im stil awaiting the results

Obviously because we are given access to this by the surgery I go to I'm not allowed to name names

It seemed to me that the doctor I saw the other day wasnt aware of my hospital referral -it was difficult to tell really - I wouldve thought that if he wasnt aware he would ve looked on my records to see if there was any docs attached to it to put him in the picture

I knew darn well he would say that my chest is clear because he was one of other 5 docs who said it was clear when it wasnt & I had a letter saying so

I accept they have to be strict about antibiotics because of a risk of addicition or they stop working- thats fne & fair enough

Ive also now bought some vicks vapour rub & olbas oil to get the luxury of breathing & rub it all over

I think when I get my results from the hospital & if they call me in to discuss it I think I'll mention this just to have some clarification

      Hello Sarajo,

What confusion there is about your lungs and the test! I see now why one says one thing but the other is disagreeing, though surely both should be in agreement about whether there is a problem with your lungs or not!!

All very confusing indeed. I'll be so pleased, as will you obviously, when the results are back to hear if they both then agree!

      Best wishes, Sue

      Hi sue

I'm comforted by the fact that in my letter the specialist said that there is no evidence of cancer & not to go down that route & my blood test is normal

So just got to wait & see what the results. I think it might it might be pleurisy or CF

      Hi Sarajevo,

That's wonderful news to know that at least it's not cancer! Thank goodness. 😀 Whatever would make you think it could be CF?! Unless you have already been a sufferer why would it just come on? Why don't you be thankful it's not cancer and wait and see what the results are rather than guess at possible ailments.

      Enjoy your life now Sarajo!

      Every best wish, Sue

      **Hi Sue

Thanks for your reply (& for calling me Sarajevo lol- thats hilarious!!!)

My reason for thinking it was CF was Ive heard a lot about it in the papers & through other sources -& then I googled it - & it said ...***.a hereditary disorder affecting the exocrine glands. It causes the production of abnormally thick mucus, leading to the blockage of the pancreatic ducts, intestines, and bronchi and often resulting in respiratory infection.

The doctor at the hospital mentioned it ws an infection or inflamation as she could hear rattling in my lungs.

I also think maybe Pleurisy --or given she asked me if I spent time around hay & I said I regularly horseride - the mention of Farmers Lung Disease came up

I hope that whatever it is its curable & doesnt eventually get worse so that I die of it

Ooops! 🙈 Sorry Sarajo, that's what comes of not being careful with the predicted text, but every time I type your name "Sarajevo" comes up! 😆

I see now why "New Forest Lung" plays on your mind, though I doubt that's the problem somehow, CF either as sufferers are born with that.

Pleurisy.... You're clutching at names that come up - don't!! 🧐 Be ecstatic that it's not cancer and patiently await the results.

Don't forget to get plenty of fresh air and walking, open the windows and drink plenty of water, please.

      Take care of yourself, Sue

      Hi Sue

Thanks very much for your reply & your concern -I appreciate that advice .

Thats ironic /coincidental you telling me to open the windows-my dad keeps telling me to do that too. -& now providing it isnt raining of course I open my bedroom & bathroom window & if going out -close them of course & then if it isnt raining open the up again when i get back-

I do tend to take a bottle of water up with me. My new riding lesson day has been changed from Friday night to Wednesday afternoon - so definitely I'll be getting some fresh air then

On a tuesdays if it isnt raining then I someties go to Middleton for a wander round

Yes I am ecstatic that its not cancer -of course I am but the reasons for me putting those conditions was at least if its one of them then obviously I can rule out the others & need to be aware of what is involved with those conditions

The sooner I get the results -& even if they call me in to discuss it -at least hopefully I get to know what it is & then discuss with them what to do next. I fear that they may admit me -Ive never been admitted to hospital before & the though & idea of it floors me greatly
